I enjoyed it, been a fair few months since I played it though and now they have removed the zombie place holders for more wildlife (as yet another place holder for something else in the future)

Teaming up with friends building a little hideaway with multiple houses with your friends was great fun, defending against potential theives etc.

Should be quite a bit more fun now with shared doors etc.

I found myself thinking 'FFS, not another CBF thread' when I saw the title.

I have to admit, I've been faintly tempted by it, but have been reverting to 'total fantasy-land' sorts of games recently: Kingdoms of Amalur has held my attention for about 30 hours so far, purely because it has absolutely no similarity with reality, and makes for some decent escapism.

For those who retort that my life has no commonality with a zombie/survival games, try working with university students for a couple of months on a limited and highly variable department budget, then get back to me.

I'm intrigued by it, except that it caters to the current mindset of what I consider griefing-centric games. You give people great creativity tools, purely so some other jerk can come along and smash it all up.

I don't know how much of a lifespan such a game can have... if you get all your stuff destroyed for the umpteenth time (and it generally is a question of when, not if) you'll get sick of it and leave. Eventually everyone who would be interested in trying will have the same result, and just the griefer lulz twats will be left until they're bored there's no more targets, and leave too.

Minecraft is just that sort of game though, and that hasnt done too bad for itself.

i guess if you are annoyed by people griefing you will be able to host your own servers once its a bit more stable.

Minecraft is to an extent - but has a lot more options for how you want to play. You can lock your server down to stop any old person getting in, or set it to creative mode so there's no competition and it's all about buildng huge projects together.

I play Wurm Online, which is basically a medieval Rust (and has been around for ten years). If you play on a PVP server then you have the same risks of people breaking into your house and stealing your stuff because the servers carry on running even if you're not logged in. However, there are extremely robust security methods available including different types of guards, traps, locks, gates and more. The result is that it's more about working together with your friends to build a little town and less about blowing up someone's house or ganking nudes/nakeds (I forget what Rust players call noobs with no equipment). It also means there's a lot more to do besides PvP, something that might eventually be true of Rust if it ever gets finished (I hate 'early access' games, finish it first then ask for my money, kthx)

Potentially interesting but not into the toony look or nature of the game. I also read is is seriously on its ass with hackers/griefers now. I do not get the mindset myself but unfortunately you cant strangle the tools through the monitor so you just have to take it.

I think they just banned 1000's of hackers recently.

There are non PVP servers and the crafting is pretty straight forward once you find the mats.

Day-Z involves getting held up by a twat with a gun for him to bleed you dry and then let you die.
