if i remember correctly you can restricted a bike to the relevant CC as long as it's not over 70KW or something

add to that you must not ride anything above 35kW but you can have a bigger bike restricted to that as long as it wasn't originally a 70kW+ bike to beginning with

It's showing as 36.5kW so you might get away with it.

but if you wanna play it by the book you'll have to restrict it by 1.5kW

Would the insurers want document saying it is restricted since im 19. My dad saying it is too big.. but that 1.5kW wont make a difference. Who would know?

Not as such, it's not listed. The 2003 F650GS is not the same as the 2008-onwards one (which is 798cc).

The 2003 is fine for "restricting" for A2 though. It won't test enough over to get you convicted, so at most what you'll need is a bit of paper saying "Is 35kW, honest."

kW is more precise. Your "bhp" might be someone else's "electric", "mechanical", "metric" or any of the other "three groats to a bushel" scale.

Fortunately, dyno calculations of "net engine power" are also voodoo maths, so 35kW = 36.5kW for real world purposes. Wink

As its an older bike it probably has lost some ooomph so probably would test under 1.5 kw or the 3 bhp you need ??

I would ride that bike unrestricted, just as I rode my "26.5kW" GPz305 on a 25kW license with few figs being given.

This infamous sv650.org thread suggests that at least some police forces won't hand it to the CPS for prosecution unless the dynomaths come out more than 10% over. Given that the bike only claimed 36.5kW as stock, a calculation of 38.5kW would highlight how loopy dyno estimates are rather than convict you.

You might be asked to show a "certificate", although no such thing exists.

A convincing looking bit of paper should do the trick, and it's unlikely even to come to that since most insurers don't even distinguish between A1, A2 and A licenses anyway (eBike being a notable exception).

If asked, volunteer nothing.

If accused, admit nothing.

It's for other people to show that it is actually making over 35kW, not for you to show that it isn't.
