Nope.

Probation period runs from whenever you get your first full license category - car license counts for that.

Really? When I passed my bike test the instructor said you lose your license if you get 6 or more points in the first two years, and he knew I'd been driving for 15 years. That is indeed good news (not that I plan on getting any points)

Yup. A lot of instructors think that, but;

There isn’t another 2 year period if you pass a test for another category of vehicle, eg to drive a heavy goods vehicle.

Congrats Thumbs Up Very Happy

I'll be putting in for mine again come payday. Just need to practice the U turn on my own bike, now that they have changed their minds in allowing me to use a road wide enough for the R125 to physically manage it. No more wobbling about on my instructors YBR. Oh....and no more brain farts when turning into one way streets either. Embarassed Already managed to get 4 points for speeding too. Sad

So....any thoughts on what bike you'll be upgrading too?

You won't be asked to carry out a U turn as part of your Mod2 test. The U turn is part of the Mod1.

The exact specifications and layout of the mod1 test are freely available, and not subject to negotiation. If you're using your own bike, invest in a tape measure, and a piece of chalk and you can practice as much as you want in industrial estate somewhere

^^^The test is different in the IOM. Just one test to take and it's on the road. They don't measure for the u turn either, they just pick a road for you to do it on, so it's a bit of pot luck which road you get. Neutral

Good work. I love it that you've resigned to getting at least 6 points!

Still sounds a lot better than all the mod 1, 2 bollocks. I'm guessing you get a full (unrestricted) license after taking the test on a 125?

R plates for a year but, can ride any sized bike without restrictors in. Only thing is, you're not 'supposed' to go over 50mph, which is the same as riding with L plates on over here.

The test is generally better than having mod 1 & 2 but, the examiners are extremely strict here.

Can anybody with a UK licence go to the IOM, sit their test and then get their licence that way? Seems easier than going through the farting about we have to do on the mainland Laughing

Tut Tut Not unless you are an Isle of Man resident (you'll need to prove it btw) and hold a Manx provisional. Plus, as I said earlier, the examiners are extremely strict and will fail you on the slightest of things.

Ah, bollocks.

Still, worth a try.

You aren't even allowed to just move to the IOM like from England to Scotland are you, don't you need a work visa?

Work permits are required. However, depending on which type of work you are looking for, depends on how easy or difficult thay are to obtain. I'm originally from Liverpool but, work in healthcare. The Manx government can't give work permits away quick enough in this sector. Speaking English wasn't even a requirement until recently. Rolling Eyes
