Cheapest as I am sure you don't intend on claiming, and they will all be cnuts anyway.

Legal cover is worthless.

Those companies are the insurance brokers, hassle when claiming is down to the insurance company who underwrites the policy.

How much the excess is is something to consider when choosing.

Protected no claims?

Personally I'd just go with the cheapest quote.

MCE's helmet/leathers cover at least for me is only 350 quid with 100 quid excess.

Not worth the paper it's written on considering my helmet alone is £200.

I just went with MCE. I was looking for a policy with "overseas riding" and finally decided to just check the cheapest which was MCE and when I called them discovered they offer 6 months protection when riding in Europe. That's more than the 90 day cover most of these "overseas" policies offer. This includes UK breakdown cover although I can upgrade at a later date to include the rest of Europe.

Excess is £500 though, and the £350 helmet/leathers option is pointless (my helmet cost £400). That and the bike they offer as a loaner if you have an accident is a 125 which is weak.

Last year I went with Carole Nash when I had my SV650 which was £250 odd tpft. This time they wanted £580tpft for a CBR600. MCE was £191.

MCE have spammed BCF, therefore they're shit. But I got to ruin their blog with nobcat so that makes up for it slightly. Razz

There are plenty of threads on BCF about people having problems with MCE but I'm sure if you look around the internets then you can find complaints about all insurance companies.

Don't touch MCE. Since they started sponsoring BSB they have more customers than they can handle and their customer service has gone to crap.

Whatevers cheapest. If its inclusive of breakdown i factor that into costs too personally.

I just went to MCE after 3-4 years with Bikesure as it was vastly cheap. Still inc breakdown and the useless legal cover bits.

Mentioned various modifications and they didn't increase the premium at all which suprised me Confused First time i've been 100% accurate I think Laughing

I can't remember ANY time they offered good customer service.

Presumably one of the reasons they can be cheapish - from what I've seen the customer service issues are systemic in their organisation - when I had call centre staff being a bit rude, the line manager was even worse.

My friends been usng WQ for years and swears by it too for value. Seems very dependant on bike type though. Hes had and ive done test quotes for CB's, Bandits, Hornets, Fazers etc and got great prices.

Whack the zx6 or other sportbikes in particular for a quote though and it rockets up way above most others.

@-Matt-
Yeah, they only really insure sensible bikes. Anything other than commuter and possibly sports/tourer, you'll likely get much cheaper quotes elsewhere.

However they let you list all the modifications that you want, for free, which is nice.

And I suppose this is where all these threads go wrong, because I'm now going to say I've never had a problem with Carole Nash (apart from a brief moment where, at their suggestion, I combined all my policies into one) and, unless they get dramatically more expensive, I intend to stay with them.

As to the OP, I would be wondering how WQ can be over 25% cheaper, when everyone else's quotes are so similar, but the truth is, you'll only find out how good they are if you make a claim, then every company's response seems to be a lottery.

This is the problem with the whole industry really... and I've very rarely heard of anyone having a good experience when making a claim Sad

I went MCE because of the low excess, gear cover and breakdown cover included but on reading this thread I hope I don't learn to regret that choice.

Insurance is just another tax.. pay the cheapest cos non of them want to pay out and make it as difficult to claim as they legally can.

Claiming from MCE or claiming using their legal cover?

Copycat, you seem to not understand what the word tax means.

I'm not sure I agree with that. I had a claim with Direct Liine on my house insurance for some guttering that blew down in a storm. My share was £850 to fix it (iin a four to a block flat). There was a lot of mucking around with the local authority over the repairs and I couldent get quotes for alternatives to the local authoritys contractor. Still Direct Line paid up, no quible and good service. DL are a bit more pricey but they're good. They didn't stiff me when it came for renewal either. I just wish they did bike insurance.

Id have to disagree with this...

My SP1 was reversed over by someone who then did a runner... (got his plate luckily)

His insurance company tried refusing to pay out more than a few hundred quid despite the bike obviously being a write off and even tried to fob me off with 'second hand parts'. In the end my legal cover paid for them to be taken to court where my very good and knowledgable solicitor made mincemeat out of them. The whole process would have been quite expensive if id had to pay for the solicitor myself, not to mention time consuming and stressful.... Like all insurance Its worthless right up until you need it!

Ariel Badger wrote:

And I disagree with this aswell.... It was Carol Nash that paid for the solicitor as soon as i said I wanted to take the driver to court they even said i could engage a solicitor of my choice if i liked, but the one they usually use was very good, and they seemed to be right.

end result I Got approximately £3500 instead of £600

Totally worth the extra £25 for legal cover!
