I really, really, REALLY want a grey import sports 400, in particular an FZR 400 3TJ, don't know why, I just think they are cool as hell.

I'm 13 stone and 6'4" with a 35" inside leg. I'm well aware these little four hundreds are tiny and all roughly the same. Apart from NC35's and the RVF, which are so cool they are on another level. Would I bee too big? What about the 250 2 strokes? Imagine a similar thing, again it has to be Yamaha for me, the TZR 250 3xv. Drooling

I'm used to dwarfing bikes, I am never comfy on any bike I sit on, I'm aware there are taller people out there but I should imagine they fell similar.

This will probably be a pipe dream, as I have just got a Kwak GPZ550 I want to do up and rag around on for a bit before getting something a bit more cooler.

So basically, tall people on small sports bikes, good idea?

I'd say too big Thumbs Down

Got a 4DX (Same as 3TJ except it's uk spec) I'm nearing 6ft and a 30" inside leg and i'd say that it's a little cramped for me. The FZR seems to be the most cramped 400 out there from my point of view but the only way you're gonna find out it to have a sit on one.

You also have the option on the FZR600 too. There is a model that looks like a big 3TJ so that might be more viable Smile

Just to rub salt into your wounds...

BTW, Had a GPZ500 D7 (2000) Worst bike i've ever had the misfortune of owning and i've had a CG125!

I take it you won't be touring on it? If not, can't see a problem. If you are, I get major cramps after an hour on my 94' FZR600R. A 400 would be torture. 6 2".

Don't know about the FZR but I had a CBR400RR (NC29) and could easily flat-foot it despite being only 5'8" or 5'9". I didn't find it cramped but I would imagine somebody 6'4" would have difficulty folding up their legs. Think you really need to sit on your desired 400 to find out.

Depends on how far you plan on riding it! FZR is small but doable however the rear shock will be on the soft side for you......used to race rgv250's and could do a 50 mile commute to work without issue....actually was nicer to ride than the fzr and most 250's (not uk spec tzr) were better setup as std than the 400's for a heavier rider but wow they feel as thin as a 125 2t and they tend to make you ride flat out all the time!

With all this rain, I haven't been doing so much offroading. I would, but I don't want to chew up all the green lanes while they are so soft, thus giving the anti-bike parade more ammo for getting lanes shut. I also feel like I can't get rid of Vicky now, after her 263 rebore, new clutch, revalved forks, new cam chain, guides and tensioner, new exhaust, new crankcase covers and now a second set of wheels for road tyres. She owes me time and money and she'll never be worth much more than a grand. If I knew that replacing the leaky clutch cover would lead to all this work, I would have parted her out.

I'd still like a Husky WR144 or something but later on.

I'd imagine the 400s should be bigger than a JC22 NSR125? I've rode around on one of those for a bit, it felt a bit cramped but less than my ttr, must be something to do with foot-peg positioning.

If I did get one down the line, it would be a toy, it would just go out for day trips and blasting around. I am looking at the 400s because they have a decent bit of go, and if I changed the gearing I could lower the top speed a bit. I'm not very mature, if my bike will do 110, chances are that I will be doing 110mph

I'm not far off 6ft, after 100 motorway miles my legs start to ache on the zxr400.

100 arse kicking miles my legs are fine.

The zxr400 is the largest/widest of the 400's i think... maybe....

I have a 4DX/3TJ

5'5 and about 10st, it's a small bike you might look a little silly. Smile
From sitting on other 400's I'd say it might be slightly more roomy then an NC30 but a little smaller then a NC29. Well that's how it felt to me.

Al, is that you on the bike? You look like it was built for you.

Chances are, it will be used down A and B roads, not down he motorway, got nowhere to go. Laughing I think most bikes, if just sat still on them would result in pain.

How would it compare to an NSR125, sizewise? I have rode one of them, and although small, I didn't feel too bad on it.

I would like a proper 250 more than a 400, with the lunatic inline four engines but, I don't have that much cash hanging around.

90's bikes were so cool.

It doesn't really work like that though. 125s can be more roomy than 400cc sportsbikes.

Yeah, my varadero 125 is roomier than my dads GS and My gpz.

Yeah it is a good fit, I did a 1000 mile day riding back from Spain a couple of years ago on it.
I think the distance from the seat to the bars would be fine for you but its the seat>pegs that might be an issue, i only have a 28" inside leg and it still feels a bit cramped.

Best bet is to go sit on one mate

I had an RVF 400 nc35 for 3 years, it was very comfortable and nice to ride, im 5.10 and 10 stone, I could tell that if I was any bigger it would probably feel too small. So probably best trying it for yourself and see how yiu feel on one

And yes, the RVF is awesome Smile

It's definitely the tallest in terms of seat height, I went to sit on/test a lot of 400s when I first passed my test.

NC30 is the lowest seat height but a fair stretch over the tank so might balance out.
