 |
|
Given how it's illegal to ride without one.
What is the most minimalist and least intrusive helmet in terms of head coverage and thickness that still conforms to the standard to legally wear in the UK.
I have my army surplus riot helmet with the visor removed but the lining is starting to come apart. It also never was road legal but you wouldn't know to look at it.
Emphasis on minimum possible intrusiveness on peripheral vision, least forward protrusion onto cheek/jaw area and thinness of shell. I don't want to be able to see this thing while I'm wearing it.
I'm not a huge fan of big leather flaps coming down the side of my face.
Not totally averse to a visor as long as it can be flipped away from in front of my face unless it's raining.
Full face need not apply. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |

The least intrusive one I've seen on the road must be the momo minimoto - https://momohelmets.com/collections/motorcycle/products/minimomo-black-matt
Momo helmets in general seem to give a wide viewing angle and a thin shell - or different shell sizes for different head sizes. They look good in leather finish, but are quite pricey for an open face lid.
Americans on cruisers seem to like the very small helmet with no side protection at all. Not legal over here, but you sometimes see people on cruisers riding them. You would probably get away with it on your Enfield, being firmly labelled under "eccentric" rather than "menace". |

On a side note......If you were to wear a turban, do you think the coppers would get funny if you don't look like a Sikh (not wanting to generalise but you know what I mean).
Looking at the law it just states that followers of the Shikh religion don't have to wear a helmet if wearing a turban.
Presumably anyone can "follow" a religion without ever attending any sort of church or temple or knowing anything about the teachings of the particular religion.
Interesting.
