Obviously the car driver didn't check before overtaking but I also felt like the bike wasn't overtaking quick enough for it to be safe.

The car driver made all the errors, but the rider should have anticipated such a thing and been a lot quicker with the overtake.

too slow, should always have the opinion that mr golf driver, driving that close and previously towards the centre of the road would want to overtake eventually

The rider was too slow, not his fault but the question is: do you want to be right or alive? Thinking

There was enough time for the highbeam though, just to make sure the car driver knew he was there about to overtake. Thumbs Up

I like how most 125's don't have a pass light on them. Obviously manufactures don't think that the bike will be overtaking anything or just can't be asked to add one onto the bike. That said you could just quickly toggle the highbeam on and off.

The car looked like it was waiting to do an over take himself, so the bike should have hung back or taken a wider line at greater speed. The bike hung around in what could have been the drivers blind spot (mirrors) although the car driver should have done a blind spot check.
Poor biking skills as in not anticipating the cars over take, poor obs by the car.

No car driver does a blind spot check. Half of them don't even realize that there car comes fitted with indicators and if they do realize that the car has indicators, they don't realize that they don't always cancel themselves. Rolling Eyes

In the 36,000 miles I've done I've only ever seen one car driver do a blind spot check before changing lanes. Surprisingly it was a young woman 17 - 20 year old in a ford fiesta. I was quite impressed at her obs. One of the few car drivers that gives car drivers a good name. Thumbs Up

This, most times you go out there will be a car would do this too you if you were as dozy as that rider.

Poor obs by car driver but doesn't matter if your on the bike and dead, never sit in blind spots, try and make sure the driver has seen you and overtake faster and cleaner with plenty of room car side.

That's what the horn is for, a double tap to let them know you are overtaking and/or next to them. The drivers window was open so shouting might even have worked. (I have no sound at work so he might have used it and now I look silly).

Agree with the use of the horn to alert others of your presence.

I usually do the blind spot check 99%, but I am human so have been known to miss it.

Really? I mean, actually really? I drove 70 miles today and didn't see one indicator left on. Same most days.

Got any more tired clichés?

Obviously just round my town then. I'd see at least 1 car a week drive a good distance down the road leaving there indicator on. Car drivers expect it to cancel it's self but doesn't always work and I do believe that some cars you can't here the indicator relay ticking.

plus you lot ride bike and drive cars. Just car drivers who don't ride bikes will not do a shoulder check, at least not many anyway. If they did that car wouldn't have pulled out on the biker.

I'm not taking the piss, but making a critical comment. You just seem have a wholly negative demeanour. Can you not just go for a ride without criticising the rest of all humanity?

Your talking Pish pete. Give new people at least a chance to get the vibe of the place before unleashing full dickery will you?

He has posted ONE of FUCKING THOUSANDS of videos like this on BCF yet this makes you summarise his whole personality?

Ridiculous. Mike like I have said you get the dicks and then you get the people above these guys that had something nice to say and said it, at least kept it on topic and didn't start complaining about the OP, and how he complains about others.. like a right hypocrit. Wink

I don't complain about everyone on the road. I just don't mention the people that have driven or ridden properly. Surprisingly there are quite a few car drivers that know how to use the road to some extent.

Most of the time it's people driving overly slow that annoy me on the road, it's not such a big issue though I can just filter past them at the next set of traffic lights. I'm sure even you'd agree that the majority of car drivers don't like or respect motorcyclists, especially those with L plates. I've even seen car drivers sitting up the ass of a learner car driver and it's like give the guy some space.

I don't see myself as a perfect rider. I'm sure I piss many people off on the road, filtering alone can annoy some car drivers. I'm yet to pass my motorcycle or car test (hopefully with in the next 3 - 4 months I'd have done my bike test) so in that respect it pisses me off more when car drivers particularly ones that would have far more road experience than me, drive like they don't understand the highway code or know how to drive a car in general when they have passed their test and should fully understand how to use the road correctly.

No one's perfect though so I expect car drivers and other road users, including myself to make mistakes or do stupid things. Sometimes though I'd could have been behind a car for a while and they'd have done several "mistakes" that make me wonder if they don't know what they are doing or are just acting stupid.

The driver of the Golf overtook the white car just as the video started and I could see from the Golf's position in the lane that he wanted to make progress and pass the green car. i would have been very wary of passing him until i knew he had seen me.

So true, in the defense of the biker though, the golf driver should have already been aware that there was a bike behind him and have known it would try to overtake at some point and therefore should have checked before pulling out.

When I've joined the A6 from Kettering, I've often looked in my mirrors to see a sports bike a few cars back and know he's gonna overtake everything on the road. Despite it being a wide road anyway, I still pull over to the left to make it safer for me and the sports bike rider. Then I shed a tear when he goes flying by me and the rest of the cars and I can only dream of doing such a thing while I'm revving my bike to around 9000 RPM trying to hold 60. One day.... :sigh:

Absolutely the golf drivers fault, but as a car driver i also know how quickly a bike can appear in your blind spot. Being a car driver and biker gives me a good perspective on both sides and i try to drive and ride with some consideration for other road users.

also, i don't ever recall blind spot checks being necessary in the car driving test (i did anyway) perhaps someone whos recently taken a car test can tell us if they are required.

I say it like I see it, and not just based on a single post. Some people post because they have something to say, others do it because they have to say something.
