As title, I've not been in the biking world that long but everyone seems to love the Speed Triples but if someone street fighters a bike the general opinion is it looks shit. What is it about the Triple that makes it so good when to the untrained eye it just looks like a street fighter style bike?

Everyone? I'm sure they're great bikes, but those lights look pretty derp to me.

Speed triple is a naked bike, not a street fighter'd hack job.
Similarly a Ducati Monster is a naked bike, not a street fighter'd hack job.

And as above, not everyone likes them. I like mine (955i), but the newer ones not so much.

Because they're not built using off-the-shelf aftermarket tat? I quite like them, but the twin headlamp design looks very dated and unfinished - even the later shaped Street Triple ones leave a bit to be desired IMO. Time for Triumph to come up with something new.

See this is what I was thinking too, that it's fugly. But in some strange way it's quite a cool bike and seems to have plenty of fans. Must be a really nice bike to ride as it's not even particularly cheap.

The Early Café racer style original's are one of the coolest bikes of the 90's, and one of the coolest naked bikes ever along with the Ducati Monster I'd say!

The mk3 ones> look a bit cut and shut and too much like a Buell in that respect.

I'd love a mint early speed triple, and wouldn't mind one with a knackered motor if I could get my hands on a Daytona 1200 lump! Tuned Speed four on flatslides? Wink

The first bike I properly remember with the twin round headlamps was Steve Burns' Spondon GSX Turbo. I loved that bike back then, but I do vaguely recall seeing a small pic of a similar look in one of the bike magazines even before that - so that would probably be early 80s. Done to death now though. But it's not easy to be original AND popular, and that's the challenge.

Stevo, I think you're right there - they need to update the motor too - in fact a complete revamp/replacement for the bike would be in order now.

I remember seeing one of the earlier ones in the Mission Impossible film years ago when I was younger and thinking it looked pretty cool but now when I see the new one I just picture a street fightered bike. I think it must be the headlights. I think the Daytona is one of the nicest looking bikes out there but the Triples are looking very dated.

Cool is ruined if you have to explain it. Speed Triples are just cool.

The lines / angles don't really do it for me - although I always think they look much better in the metal than photos. I'd love a go of one mind you.

So we all agree they're cool but we don't particularly like how they look. To me it kind of sums up naked bikes, part of me wants one but I don't know why.

The latest ones (oval lights) look rank but the engine more than makes up for it.

They sound good and seem to be decently equipped, quite hyped up though. I wouldn't mind a test ride of one some day just to see what the fuss is all about.

My CBT instructor has a speed triple. Looks nice IMO. Twin headlights look okay with the styling of the bike think it'll look quite weird with a big single head light. Sounds good too Thumbs Up The guy also swears by it that it's one of the best bikes in it's class.

I think they're awful looking, I really don't get the love for them. Proportionally they look all wrong imo and yeah those lights.
