 |
|
Hi all.
So my CB-1's engine blew up just outside Embleton tonight on the A66. I'm just on my way home from work, go for an overtake and as I'm shifting from 5th to 6th it drops out of gear, the revs go skyhigh and then I rapidly lose power until the engine cuts out.
Pushed it a mile down the road to Embleton and saw a bike in somebodies front garden so I knocked on the door and the fella let me stick the bike next to his. Top bloke! However I've got no way to get the bike back the 10 miles or so to Maryport where I live.
If anyone is local and has a van or suitable trailer (or even any sympathy or suggestions), would you be willing to help a fellow biker out in return for your petrol costs and the price of a few beers or w/e.
Cheers, Louis. ____________________ Previous - Sinnis Apache - Honda Bros 400 - Yamaha SR500 - Honda Transalp - Kawasaki ZX-7R - Honda CB-1 - Honda 929 Fireblade - Honda NTV650 [b]Current[\b] Honda CB500 |

Can't help tonight I'm afraid, I've had a few drinks and I'm on call tomorrow so that's off the cards too.
Try calling the guy at Cockermouth Motorcycles in the morning. He's got a trailer and he's only 5 minutes from Embleton. I can't think he'd charge a huge amount to whizz it through to Maryport for you. Make him an offer.

You have a PM.
Edit: I'm heading out to the pub soon. I'll check back at just gone 8pm.
Edit 2: Too late for tonight then, I'm cracking open a can. Do reply though, I'm kicking about tomorrow evening too, I'm only 20 minutes or so away from you and I have a Vito with tie-downs and a bike ramp. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. So true to his word Stinkwheel came and picked up the bike and dropped it back home for me. Turns out he was also the man who did pretty much the same thing 5 years ago when I broke down on my 125 outside his house, neither of us realised until we arrived at my house. What a legend is all I can say. Something to think about for anybody whose been slating him recently, in the real world, where real people live, he's helped me out twice at no gain to himself.
I'll be sure to post a thread in Show and Tell when I get back home to have a look at it. Suspect the sump will be full of pieces of clutch, as it starts and runs (roughly and cuts out with any throttle) but as soon as I tried to put it in gear it dies.
Cheers again Stinkwheel, let me know what pub you frequent and I'll come buy your drinks for a night. ____________________ Previous - Sinnis Apache - Honda Bros 400 - Yamaha SR500 - Honda Transalp - Kawasaki ZX-7R - Honda CB-1 - Honda 929 Fireblade - Honda NTV650 [b]Current[\b] Honda CB500 |

I learned something valuable today too though.
Steering locks are pretty much a waste of time.
The guy where the bike had been left was out when we arrived and the keys were in the house.
qarka and I managed to wheel the bike out of the yard, along the back lane of a terrace and load it into my van in less than five minutes (after standing thinking about it for a while) using nothing more high-tech than a bit of wood through the front wheel to lift it with.
We were not challenged by anyone. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
