Looking to buy my first bike, any advice??

Hi Guys,

I currently only possess a CBT liscense and own a 2013 Honda CBR 125 (which may I say is a beautiful bike) but I am looking at buying a bike for when I have passed my DAS and was wondering what suggestions you guys may have?

I prefer my sports bike range so think I will be looking in that genre but am open to suggestions.

I heard very good things about the Daytona 675 and absolutely love the Honda CBR range, but I'm sure there are others out there! Any suggestions or advice would be muchly appreciated.

You may want to revise that plan after you've ridden the A2 training bike. It's going to be tough to stick with a 125 once you're used to the bigger bike.

I've already done my training and absolutly loved the yamaha mto3 but I've got my honda on a 3 year finance and have been on it since ive been on the yamaha and still absolutly love it. Its such a smooth ride, and for riding around country roads it still gives my brothers bmw gs650 a run for its money (obviously not on the straights!) I'm a patient lad, so im confident ill be able to wait its just i want to start looking for my next bike now cus if i come across a good deal i may be inclined to buy and have a little tinker with it before i become legal. So any suggestions?

I suggest that you'll last two weeks after you're licensed up before trading bikes.

Are you really suggesting that you might buy a supersports bike and then leave it sitting around depreciating and seizing up for 2 years? Sorry, I don't think this is a serious question.

SV650S, ER6-F, GSX650F or similar, an 35kW restrictor kit (or a "35kW honest" bit of paper), then ride it on your A2.

I know that's not what you want to hear.

Okay, so thanks for not being helpful at all... if i wanted to buy a bike for when i passed my A2 thats what i would have asked for.... I know i will be able to wait as one of the main reasons is so that i can keep my insurance low while riding a 125cc and also to keep my insurance on this bike going so by the time i get a bigger bike ill have a few years no claims, again keeping my insurance at a decent price! Also i dont see the point buying a bike to have for two years that i am restricted in choice, then having to go though the bother of selling it and then buying the bike i really want....

And no im not saying im going to just stick the bike in the garage to sieze up, i didnt realise i had to have a full liscense to ride around a track...? Or maybe you didnt think about that?

Well thanks for nothing anyway mate... any other serious suggestions from anyone who has a clue would be very much appreciated

P.s i didnt come on here to have an arguement or be a dick to anyone but it seems youve just brought the worst out of a new rider looking for help!

From what i can see roger came you sound advice, and yes you did make it sound like you were going to buy a big bike and leave it in a garage for 2 years.
Just go and buy the bike that you want, your unlikely to find the answers you want here.

The advice you get is only going to be as good as the information that you choose to give.

If you deliberately drip feed it and change your story every time, you'll get exactly the responses that you deserve.

So, what is it you're asking now? Ideal track bike for someone who chooses to ride a 125 day-to-day?

Actually, used bikes are still going out of the country by the lorryload and new sales are still in the doldrums so prices won't go down, they'll probably go up.

A lot can change in 2 years....I wouldnt even bother looking or getting advice for another 18 months.

If someone pipes up and says "you MUST get a GSXR1000 at ALL costs" what exactly are you going to do about it?

Puma yeah i see what your sayimg, but if someone said i had to get such amd such a bike it would mean that i could start looking at different prices and trying to find out what i need to look at in that particular bike. Im just trying to gather as much information as possible so i can start making an informative decision.

And matt, yeah it may have come over as obnoxious which, roger, i apologise, but his comment about my question not being a serious one was unnecersary also..

But yeah make what you said does make sense, its just ive bought this brand new honda and i really dont want to part with it! :p thanks for your input tho i will look around for the 500 and take a look through the a2 bike list and see if i can bring myself to givimg up my cbr a bit earlier than planned.

To be honest after riding the mto3 it made me realise how smooth a ride my bike actually is, and weather it goes 100 mph or does 0-60 in1 second at the moment really doesnt bother me.

I think it is in my best interest insurance wise and experiance wise to keep it a couple more years, then look for a bike once i have my full liscense. Although i will see what is out there for my A2 restrictions and play it by ear.

I suppose i could have more than one bike anyway if i want to hold onto my cbr...

Everytime i see it in my garage i still cant believe that i own the thing! Ive got the repsol colouring and it is just gorgeous! Even people with the likes of R1's and GSXRs turn there head when i drive past!

Believe it or not 125's can often be more expensive to insure than bigger bikes, especially sport rep's.
But hey at least its a honda 125 that's still built to honda standard's

Ah okay thats good to know i will have a little look on the insurance then! And haha matty i love it and thats all that matters! :p and you know what kerr mechanically it really is beautiful, ive even had 89mph out of it! :o
