Hey guys a bit of advice if you can share, I'm looking at getting a roadbike, mainly to start riding my commute (19 miles a day) but also for roadriding so something that will do he job well for longer trips to save me getting bored doing cardio.

I'll most probably get it using the cycle to work scheme and the bikes I have whittled down to either the Giant defy one or the composite 3, both in at around the 1k mark.

Can I ask for opinions on my choice or are there better options out there for the price range?

I really should add that I have never owned a road bike before, I used to ride cheap steel framed MTBs everywhere prior to the car/Mbike so to be honest it will probably be a revelation to my past experience anyway.

Have a look at Planet x and Ribble. Great bikes for the money and both companies are cycle to work compatible

Spend a grand.

Don't ignore bike maintenance Smile

I assume your commute is 19 miles round trip? This is a really nice do-able commute, but be prepared to feel pretty knackered by Friday morning for the first few weeks!

Oh, and if you're planning on riding whatever the weather. Get something that you can fit some form of mudguard to.

Most bikes will take a set of raceblades, but best to check. You'll be sorry you didn't the first time you have to ride to work at the same time a receiving a colonic from the water jetting off the back wheel!
