So if you dont know anyone in a MCC or of any around your local area, how do you go about joining one - i mean if you set one up surely your going to get grief by the nearest club?

I've met members from 3 local groups and grief is not on their agenda (It's not the 70s anymore Wink ).
You join a club by approaching them, either digitally or physically.

Its not as simple as that though really is it, they want you to "prospect" and all that nonsense - the way i see it is i wouldnt do what some random told me to do he'd get the bird so why would i do what some club members want me to do...

Simple. Don't join.

The way I see it is you join a club for 2 reasons. It offers you something you can't get as an individual. Or you can bring your services or expertise to help the club.

IIRC

M.C. are the dudes who you might get grief off.... if it was the 70's

M.C.C. are law-abiding for the most part.

Indeed, but they've lost their edge since they are no longer the guardians of the rules of the game...

The other type of bike club I've seen takes the form of a load of teenagers with their first big bikes, hoodies with the club name printed on them & it's about going roundabout surfing and who can do the biggest wheelie. Have been out with a few guys who are into all this, whilst I'm not keen on the hoodies a night out can be a right laugh.

That is back in the early eighties. That is how I came into bikes.
Wrangler jackets, doc martens , LCs then big Katanas.

It is a right of passage. Do not knock it old fella Laughing Laughing

As above - as far as I know an 'MC' is your typical criminal gang that rides cruisers.
MCC is your bike club.
However, an MCC may be affiliated to a particular MC for various reasons.

Don't go around wearing a traditional back patch, trying to infringe on appropriate illegal stuff (drugs, etc) and there shouldn't be a problem setting up a bike club if you want to.

The thing is i know ALOT of people that sell drugs and have been inside doing various stints and none of them are arsed about being in a bike gang or anything of the like - as you also said, alot of these are middle aged dudes sitting in terrys shed then theres the dentist/accountant type, how are they ever going to scare anybody because if their likes came to a working class council estate living bloke chances are they are going to have their face rearranged.

So this is why im asking the question, i dont see the big deal in back patches an that if you want to start a club with friends or whatever and wear a back patch then it shouldnt be an issue!

OP go buy a Sons of Anarchy cut on eBay then ride back and for past your local MC's clubhouse. They will respect you so much for it you won't need to prospect.

A proper MC will have you prospecting for at least a year and without any of the naughty business all you'll be doing is riding out and getting hammered (partying). I gave it up as being mighty boring. And too expensive (subs, gas and booze/gear etc).

Don't see the point in wearing one full stop really. The only time it may be of use I can think of would be at a huge meet in order to keep track of people you're with in a crowd - but you'd be better off just remembering what they look like probably Laughing

Anything that requires you to 'prospect' probably isn't worth or desirable to be involved with for most people anyway. Either because its dodgy, or they're going to be a bunch of stuck up attention seekers Razz Probably more often the latter.

Ride with people who you get on with and have a good time riding with, doesn't require a club membership Wink

I can't speak for them all but most people join my club via meeting/partying with another member and being invited to come along on a run. If they enjoy it, they might come on more and eventually join.

Another way people join is after attending one of our "open runs" where we advertise a weekend and invite people to turn up and go for a ride with us. Club members are in attendance and made obvious. There is generally a party/band on later the same night and if people show an interest, they can come party with us and see if we get on.

In the past, the club has actually advertised for new members and had an "at home" meeting.

Our club doesn't make people prospect. We do insist on people having been on three overnight camping runs, more so they know we're right for them. Then they are proposed and seconded for membership and voted in. To my knowledge, only one person has ever not been voted in due to being involved in extracurricular activities the club did not want to be assosciated with. Then you pay a fiver for your patch.

Most clubs have a website these days which will often say if they are interested in new members and if so, where they meet etc. If you're interested in joining a local club, see if they are running any events (rally, rock night, bike show etc) and go along, get talking to people.

The political situation with regard to any MC/backpatch/1%-er activity varies immensely depending where you are in the country, they may or may not be an issue. Any normal motorcycle club would have no issues with someone else starting up a club.

Most MCCs meet one or more times a month in the pub.

They usually fall into 2 categories, those who desperately want to be MCs and don't have the chops so like to pose a bit, pretend they are important and try to intimidate people.

Or those run by a committee of people who have absolutely no authority in any other aspect of their lives and have a desperate need to be in charge of something that gives them chance to tell other people what to do.

Some clubs put on good events, either pub nights or bike shows/meets. Some just pose. Some don't appear to ride at all.

If your thing is being a sheep and fitting in with a crowd then find out where your nearest club meets and go see what they are about.

Not my thing personally (despite, according to you lot, being in the right age group, having the right bike and having the right job) but meh, your life is your life.

Tut Tut - no wimmin or blacks.
Well, you do get MCs (in other countries) that are predominantly/let in non-whites now I think, but the old ones were certainly pretty racist and sexist in who they allow in.

Mates and I had a club/gang years back went round partying, riding, camping trips and going for coffee.

Realistically the worst we did was sometimes race when pissed up at 3am, park illegally outside coffee shops, generally didn't worry about tax/test or licence's and a couple of the lads did a bit of petrol running and one armed robbery (with a bb gun). Oh and there were almost some drunken orgies but someone always killed the mood at the last second.

We did once however get accused by the police of kicking someone's dog, setting fire to a beach and terrorising the citizens of a quiet seaside town, funny thing is most of that happened before we got there lol

If you are looking for a MCC try Streetfighters, they are a large respected club.
If you are looking for an MC then good luck Cheshire is not really 1% country though but the HA are active in Liverpool.

Women still wear a "property of" patch in many MCs.
