No parties represent me, the problem is we have an all or nothing system. Whereby you support ALL of the policies of a party or nothing.

The main parties are all so similar there is no real choice.

I think I prefer rational anarchy, as explained in Heinlein fiction (Moon is a harsh mistress and stranger in a strangeland).

Essentially, you pay for what you want and if YOU want to introduce a law for the 'good' of somebody else then YOU reach into YOUR own pocket and pay for it. Rather than imposing a law on somebody which they do not like and do not pay for it.

Ironically the Loonar colony gains its independence and becomes a tyranny..

We should have a system like in Uraguay with their 'Rate your PM' system they have. It takes all the promises made from that party and acts as a means of making sure they keep to these promises.

My politics is reasonably well described as "right-wing libertarian". AFAIK there is no party that hold those views in the UK, let along enough people to give them power.

It's a niche political standpoint that most people would actively fight against, so I'm under no illusion that it will ever come to pass that I'll ever live in a right-and-down society.

As such, if I was going to vote, I'd be voting on the principle of "which party will screw me the softest and have the decency to at least lube me up first" rather than voting on a party I actually agree with.

Libertarian leaning also. Most Brits love being told what they can and can't do because it's too dangerous. Rolling Eyes

Voted no, considered the "not bothered about being represented", but that would be wrong. Fully capable of representing myself and can't see why many of our "systems" won't allow me to. Having to pass correspondence through an MP who doesn't seem very interested (though they do try to keep up the pretence) is just a ballache intended to put people off questioning anything.

Mate europe is worse. I thought "UK is so full of rules, you can't do anything" then I spent a few months in portugal last summer. At least in the UK the general idea seems to be "if there isn't a law banning it, it is allowed" whereas in portugal it seems to be "if there isn't a law saying it is legal, it is not allowed.

Speaking to various frenchers, germans and swedish (don't get me started Wink ) it seems like this a common theme throughout europe.

I was working for a swedish expat in portugal, a lady in her 50's who owned a horse farm. I started asking about life in sweden so imagine my surprise where she was talking about stuff like: all the men in sweden are "pussified" and you can't find a "strong man" anymore, feminism was a govt plot to increase the labour pool postwar, sweden doesn't trust it's citizens to look after themselves etc etc. Was pretty funny really.

I can point at one MP who does represent my views on many issues. However, I didn't and can't vote for him, and he's barred from voting on some of the issues that impact me, because he's not Scotch.

Locally, my representative will de facto be either Plaid Commie or nuScotchLabor and I am throwing my vote away on anyone who's not a dolescum appeasing socialist parasite.

So on the whole, no, I don't feel particularly represented or engaged with the UK Parliament.

In the Scotch Parliament, I can at least wipe my arse with the constituency ballot and then get some odd quirks and remnants of representation through the PR vote.

That would be a fairly certain no I think Laughing

Even certain opinions/ideals that should be inline with certain parties attitude towards relevant matters rarely seem to actually relate.

I must say im not suprised at the poll outcome. Personally I take the conspiracy theory point of view that the partys deliberately foster voter apathy and feeling disenfranchised.

It was good fun, seeing how far I could go without betraying my powerlevel. Met one of her swedish mates too who was much of the same mind.

One of the funniest bits of the trip was playing with the illegally held shotguns that everyone seems to have in portugal. A sawn-off isnt really what you expect a mid-50's lady to be keeping in her cupboard-under-the-stairs!

I've said it before.

Anybody who seeks power should be automatically banned from holding any sort of authority or power as those who seek it are invariably least qualified to hold it.

Hi

I doubt more than a tiny percentage of the population agree with all the policies of any one party, and with the wide range of peoples views I doubt it would be possible for that to change.

Politics is largely about bargaining, giving way on points you care about but not massively in exchange for support on issues you care about more. Sounds bad until you consider the alternative.

If the legal framework was kept to a minimum then hardly a problem.

All the best

Keith

No.

I am English and thus Scottish/Welsh & Ulster politicians vote in my matters whereas my local MP can't vote in theirs.

Only when we have an English parliament will I feel represented.

But not unexpected, IMO

Certain things from certain parties I agree with entirely - but I dare say I'd never agree with all or even the majority of one party's policies.

I think feeling 'represented' is more than agreeing with policies, however. If you mean 'are politicians just like me / have they any idea what I'm going through' then it's fairly obvious why the poll result is like it is. Not many people are in that sphere full stop let alone would be found on an internet motorcycle forum.

You forgot to mention the Irish (ROI) politicians who also have a say in your matters.
