Ello

Having a right pain in the ass trying to enable windows updates.
Selecting windows updates from the control panel, I'm presented with a red window tell me to check for updates.
Yet when I click "check for updates"

" Windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer "

I have tried ever method known to me try enable windows updates.
Countless spyware & malware scans with various programs, tried enabling it through command prompt and windows service menu.
Then did it all again in safe mode.

I also cannot use a restore point, attempting to gives me this gem of an error

"a volume shadow copy service component encountered an unexpected error ... etc"

All the while the shutdown button on the start menu has a gold shield, as if to indicate an update requires a restart

Thanks for the help guys, reinstalling windows was my last resort.

However, running another set of scans in safe mode found multiple malware/Trojans hiding in the folders of my antivirus Evil or Very Mad

Removed it & everything returned to normal.
