PostPosted: 18:34 - 15 Feb 2014    Post subject: Hornet Project (finished) Reply with quote

SO, i've had the hornet for about 18 months. Had it restricted for a year due to my age, then rode it for 4 months derestricted before passing my driving test and going to the dark side.

Had to SORN the bike off over winter as i couldn't run both the car and the bike.
Got a new job and now i can afford to run both Very Happy

Got the bike back and started this project with my dad. Always wanted to get an exhaust to unleash the sound, brake lines and change the colour (even though the yellow was awesome). So now that's what i'm doing.

Bike started off like this.

https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/594/94700510151614691564631.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/651/untiw.jpg

Got a Mivv X-cone exhaust, HEL yellow brake lines, Black pegs, Black pro-bolt kit, new brake pads and most importantly a new paint job (Sapphire black pearl).

We stripped the bike a few weeks ago, so today we've managed to get a new sump on as the old one was leaking (crossthreaded sump nut Rolling Eyes ), new gaskets on a couple of the engine casing panels and a bit of the pro-bolt kit on.
As well as dropping the parts off at the spray shop. Picking them up in 2 weeks Smile

https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/32/2x58.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/819/ognh.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/716/dq3e.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/713/atqp.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/842/ys7b.jpg

The aim is to have the black theme across most of the bike, except for the brake lines which give it a little highlight.
Thought i'd post it on here as i haven't posted in a while and just in case anyone was interested in a Hornet project Thumbs Up If I can call it a project that is.

I'll keep this updated as the progess continues Thumbs Up

I'm not a massive fan of the Hornet (although that may be down to the only one I know of is ridden by a cock Laughing) but that's a stunning bike. Thumbs Up

It was a toss up between a FZ6 and a Hornet for my first bike, FZ6 won, but I still think the Hornet looks awesome!

Am I reading this right? Are you planning to change the colour of the bike to black? Or just have black with the yellow?

P.S. There is a show and tell section for this kinda thing Wink

Yeah the plan is to have the tank, fender, belly pan and seat fairing black. As well as most other parts. The only yellow part will be the braided hoses, in memory of the original colour Thumbs Up

Nb good eye, took that by Woburn last year Thumbs Up

Paint job is £400. They're fooling in a few minor marks, decent base coat and then a number of solid layers as well as lacquer. Should shine like new

I have been looking for a yellow rear fairing for the longest time. It's a shame you sent yours off, I'd have offered you a trade, or some cash for it Sad

The initial problem with my Hornet was that everything was yellow. Even just the side panels being black would've broke that up a bit.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Yeah I'm hoping so! I'll make sure to upload good photos of the paint job when done.

I wanted to invest in the paint job anyway. Even though it's black I want it to stand out haha

TL was sprayed in pearl white for £180 Shocked £400 is rather excessive for a standard colour Laughing

Nice bike though, needs more updates.

Yeah it is quite a bit, but I'm just happy it's being done properly. Would rather invest and get it done really well.

The colour is sapphire black pearl, had a look at it and it had a nice shine to it even just on the lid of the tin

The latest is we've got the paintwork back, scratches and dents filled, colour looks sweet. Levers and brake pads have arrived, pads are on and levers will be next weekend.

Just waiting on the brake lines, HEL are taking a while producing the yellow lines apparently. Once we've got them on the bodywork will go on and so will the exhaust.

Thanks for the comments, the paint is pearl and the guy at the sprayshop even said it will look amazing in bright sunlight (not like we get much of it). So yeah the paint job is spot on Thumbs Up

I'm looking at getting a new rear shock in the future, would probably be black, mainly as the only actual yellow one is ohlins. So unless I've got about £500 spare for the shock, it'll be a black one Smile
