For the bosses, about banning

Hello, I was just wondering, how long does one stay banned and can we actually know the reason of the ban? It seems to me people are getting banned every day and many of us does not know why. Do you really think that banning so much of people will safe you the ad money? The only result I can see would be people starting their own forum else where which would take a lot of regular members from here. Without regular members there's no fun, without fun there's no money from ads, since there'd be no people at all.

In case this could be also a reason to ban someone, keep in mind it's people that are interesting and entertaining that attract another people, your potential paying customers. More people means more clicking and that makes the site more interesting for advertising companies.

PhilDawson committed forum suicide by deliberately posting nobcat without a nsfw tag.

I very much doubt there would be a new forum spun off by the members involved.

Running a forum takes time, effort and money and you just can't have the same lulz while doing that as you can by trolling and bullying on an existing forum.

I have banned three people. In total.

1) Blau zendog for blatant trolling, abuse of the karma system, bullying and acting like an idiot for the sake of it against a background of repeated abusive behaviour towards other users. This was done in consultation with other mods and was repeated by the forum owner when he mouthed off again about it.

2) Some American guy spamming cheap chinese autocycles. Twice. Once for doing it then again for sending an abusive PM from a new account.

3) ukguy for directly threatening physical violence against another user and (when I looked into his history) posting some nasty abuse I hadn't seen earlier this month. Exascerbated because both happened against a background of some very mild ribbing by people who were trying to help him in the workshop section. I'm sure he'll be welcome back if he asks nicely and winds his neck in.

For a site that attracts so many, very few have been banned and I guess most have a warning, be it general to all or specific.

Perhaps being put in the sin bin first (all red blobs) may be a warning system of getting a potential ban without getting that ban?

The only banned users are those that really did go too far.

I think it's time someone defined ,,going too far'', in order to keep the rest of people from the edge.

I do realize I could just read what the inappropriate behavior is, but according to that most of the members shall be long gone now.
