Basically had a crash in feb last year.
Wasn't at fault but was told it was fifty/fifty.

Anyway after this I had to pay out £300+ for my excess and that was all I've heard from the insurance company since then. They never mentioned anything about losing my NCD.

So, will I still have it or is it gone and they don't have to tell me?

Easiest way is to phone your insurance company up and ask.

I presume you've renewed since then? What did your renewal notice say?

If the fault went as 50/50 though, only an admin error or protected NCD will let you keep it.

I've been off the road since then. So haven't asked. However don't want to bring attention to it just in case it is an admin error...

Just wondered it they have a legal obligation to let you know that your NCD has been affected?

Technically, your NCD won't be effected until you renew, at which point, they will notify you on the renewal notice.

Other than that, as with just about every aspect of insurance, it's your job to make sure you've got all the correct facts when you take a policy out.

Just ask them to send you a proof of NCD. You'll need to present it to your next company anyway. Whatever it says on it, go with it!

Is it really worth your insurance being revoked in the event of a claim because you accepted an admin error instead of correcting them?

I wouldn't risk it personally.

I have more NCD than I declare but as I've misplaced the old certs I go off the figure I can prove, just in case.

One less thing to worry about.

I had Swinton on the phone this morning, telling me my crash was showing as "50/50" but my NCD was unaffected. Work that one out.

They then told me my premium would be £75 more than last year's (comes up in april), which was £125. I told them to do one, they then said they'd discount it by £50. Told them to do another one and I'd go back to the meercat. Where Swinton will probably come up at £125 again.

How will they ever find out? Data in, data out.

I've no idea what is held in their computers but I bet if they tried they can find out how many years NCB you are entitled to.

I suspect it holds the years you have had insurance, and the claims with/without protected NCD.

If they find a discrepancy then they could look further into it, worth the risk?

That's your choice. No different to not declaring mods, you take that chance, some people have been screwed over others have got away with it.

Seems like a little bit of scare mongering going on, as far as the company I work with is concerned as soon as we get proof a box is ticked on your profile and the proof you sent gets filed for 3 months then binned and that's that.

If the company you're with sends you proof of NCD that is incorrect and you send that proof off there is a 99.9% chance it will be fine unless they have a reason to validate it with the other company like you have proof of 9 years but a license for only 3. In which case you would most likely just pay the increased premium.

Though this may change shortly as they are trying to get all insurers on a database similar to how Road Tax will operate where your details are stored on a server and insurers can check what you are entitled to without the need for proof thus eliminating most fraud and paper errors.

But since you can transfer it over, I could claim for 8 years no claims later this year. 6 on my car, two on my bike. I'm 23, so that would mean according to that I passed my test at 15...

Most insurance companies wont count NCD earned on a car towards bike insurance and visa versa.

But they'll apply a bike-crash claim to the car insurance and vice versa.

Scum.

Any fault is at fault.

There are no common rules on NCD - it's entirely a matter between you and your current insurer.

I'm not aware of anywhere that will let you add 2 seperate sets let alone one of which is car and another which is bike. What company is that if you dont mind me asking?
