Hi all.
A work colleague is tempted to get on two wheels (just a moped).

He was wondering if he could do the CBT on a polish car license or would he have to exchange it for a British one. I'm assuming that he would have to change it.

Does anyone know for sure?

Cheers

John

google seems to suggest he can use his licence, however if he intends to stay longer than the expiry date on his licence he'll need to swap for a british one anyway.

Another good source of information would be too just blimmin call a place that does CBT's, as I'm assuming they'd probably know Rolling Eyes

Does the Polish car license have some sort provisional motorcycle entitlement on it - Maybe an issue if not?

I'd just ring up they should give a clear answer, sure its something they get asked quite a lot.

In terms of getting a full license I know a couple of Polish friends returned to do it in Poland as its apparently a lot cheaper and easier to pass, so they said anyway - maybe worth considering if he wants to progress beyond CBT Razz

I went through CBT mod 1 and 2 on my NI driving license. I cant see any issue apart from should they wish to go for full test. It was a pain getting my NI provisional changed into a full British one even though both licences were British.

Polish B licences have no provisional A - there is no concept of a provisional licence in Poland.

What he needs to do is:

1. Get a provisional UK A licence.
2. Do CBT.
3. Pass the test.
4. Send the pass certificate and the Polish licence to the DVLA.
5. Receive the UK A+B licence.

I went through it 2+ years ago, apologies if my memory of the process is not 100% accurate.

In Poland you can ride 50cc bikes without licence/no such thing like CBT. So Polish B licence doesn't come with provisional A.

The only way is to get Provisional UK licence and do CBT or exchange EU licence with all entitlements to UK licence and do CBT.

I did the later, but that was in 2004. I also got moped entitlement as I passed my EU test (B) before 2002.

Wrong information here!

For non GB licences you just need to apply for a UK counterpart.

It is form D9 available here:
