Hi all just a question about helmet cams, looking for a half decent budget cam around the £100 Mark and found the wingman HD for £129, looking at reviews it seems like a good buy has anyone else bought this camera and had any reasons why not to use it or any better ones around that price, cheers again.

I would suggest before spending big money just get a cheap little cam to experiment with first.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B003URUXVQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?qid=1394019390&sr=8-6&pi=SL75

I have one of these and it works fine just stick it on your helmet with a blob of blutak.

Thanks for the reply, the problem with that one would be it does not record for long enough with the wingman I can attach it to my bike and charge it for long journeys about 8 hours or so, is there any others in your experience that would be better suited, but that one would be Brilliant for work journeys so I wouldn't have to take a more expensive one with me cheers again

Would really recommend a Drift HD 720. Got mine for 99 quid brand new and boxed on ebay - should be able to find them for a similar price if you keep an eye out daily.

Comes with various mounts of motorcycle helmets/ski goggles, and you can get a mount of car windowscreens for under 3 quid here https://tinyurl.com/ox2ndff

Battery lasts about 2.5 hours, charges in about the same. And two spare batteries for 17 quid for times you can't charge it off the bike here https://tinyurl.com/p8pnvxc

Quite small compared to the chunkier square cameras like GoPros etc also, long and thin design seems good for mounting on a bike/ski helmet particularly. And comes with a remote you can strap to your wrist with velcro to start/stop recording whilst riding etc.https://i59.tinypic.com/2w4ftra.jpg

You might ba able to charge it on the bike with an aux power socket but it might not record while charging. I would also take claimed recording times with a pinch of salt. Especially with cameras that have a screen. Also the higher the definition the higher the power usage and the less recording times. Long vids are dull as well so you probably want loop recording and carry a spare memory card with you so if something interesting happens you can take out the card with the interestinf recording and pop in the spare.

For day to day use I use a chillitech 2 and its great for safety recordings. I have a Rollie HD BUllet for higher def but to be honest never use it. On the bike I have a Polaroid GoPro style one for loop recording day to day.

Drifts are popular but they are big compared to the bullet style cams.

Charging shouldent be a problem with any of them if you just get a 12v adaptor for charging through USB ports (like adaptors for charging mobile phones in a car) Trouble is I found with my Polaroid that it doesn't record while charging which is a bit annoying.

There is just so much choice though. Which is why i suggest people try a cheapie first. Sony have a good camera as well but more in the £150 range, still almost guaranteed quality with a sony.

Thank you for the help the cheap one you put on is a great idea while at work aswell as on the way about 30 mins but when I go out we have a great time but nothing to look back on, other guys have ones that record for 30mins at a time but would like something bit better looking at the other batteries to be honest, not normally riding more than 3 hours without a break, thanks again you have all been a great help more choice than I could find filtering through Google Very Happy

here ya go mate, a drop shippers called Fox Offer:
https://www.foxoffer.com/sj4000-full-hd-waterproof-action-helmet-camera-p-659.html
$99 so £59.25 delivered.
$8 (£4.79) for 2 spare batteries when ordered with the camera.

I wouldnt bother getting the micro sd from there tho, you can get class 10's cheaper on ebay.

You can pay for faster shipping if you like too.

Remember that even if you can charge while recording you'll still run out of storage...

What are these box cameras (like the SJ) like at high speed? Are they still stable on the helmet?

How do you even mount these to your helmet?

Been considering a camera for a while, and any answers would really help!

They are fine at speed.

TO mount to lid easiest option is to use the supplied curved adhesive mount mlike this one:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-x-GoPro-Replacement-Adhesive-Helmet-Mounts-for-HD-Hero-1-2-3-Curved-Flat-3M-UK-/161209593479

looks a bit like this when fitted:

https://www.webbikeworld.com/r4/hero-camera/helmet-hero-top-mount.jpg

People do side mount them too, similar system
