Anyone been before/planning to go this year?

Thinking of going but I want to keep it as cheap as possible - is getting a general admission ticket going to give enough access to see much off/on track, or do you really need to get grandstand tickets to make it worth the visit?

Went last year, (?) year before last? Crutchlow had broken his ankle that weekend, but raced anyway. And did bloody well!

First visit to Silverstone, rode up with a friend, ticket was £75 ish for a roving grandstand, expensive compared to BSB etc but when you look at the price of a football match etc didn't think it was too bad.

Getting in and out, even on a bike is a bit of a pain but doable.

It's worth going just the once to experience the raw sound the bikes produce, unlike anything else I've heard! Id go again if the opportunity arose.

We went last year, considering it was our first viewing of a race live having followed the MotoGP for some of the previous year and the whole year in the run up it was amazing, the sound and sight of the riders and their machines was great (again I emphasize this was our first outing to a rave of any kind)

We sat in Silverstone Six (I got sunburnt, it was overcast at best, I'm ginger) which provided a good view of a few bends and Marquez's warm up crash which nearly hit crutchlow.

We packed far too much in layers and made extensive use of the helmet/leather storage facilities for most of our clothing bar our boots

I can't comment on the roving ticket as obviously we made use of the grandstand (and enjoyed some idiots behind us smoking drinking and swearing alot being removed from the stand because the seats they were in belonged to some marshals and helpers

It was a great atmosphere with some bits to do between races and plenty to see too

TBH, Silverstone has never been my favourite place to go and see motorsport.

There's only a couple of good places to watch and the organisers know that and charge accordingly (somebody mentioned Six, I think that starts at about 1200 quid on F1 race day).

I reckon anyone who's into motor racing should make a point of going to a GP (cars or bikes) at least once, just to get the atmosphere and noise, but you can do that during practice and qualifying, then go home and watch the race on TV.

Agree that Silverstone is not the best circuit for viewing, but its a good atmosphere and certainly something to put on your bucket list.
I'm a bit spoiled in that my brother gets hospitality at all the tracks, so I watch in relative comfort whilst being fed and watered.
But, if it was actually my money, I'd go to watch BSB, seems to be a far better race series all round with more varied racing classes.

Agree that Silverstone is a nightmare to get in/out of and not great for viewing unless you are in a grandstand. It's just down the road from me (used to take students there to do their Mod1 test) so I pop along for odd days, normally practice sessions when it's cheap to get in.

I wouldn't pay to see MotoGP there on race day, think I would save up and do Assen instead. You can do a few BSB events instead, I like Snetterton and Donington so we will be doing those this year.

Side note - I am pissed off with MotoGP for going with BT so less willing to part with large sums of cash than before.

Would love to visit Assen and some of the other Euroland tracks for it at some point, just the additional cost of the ferry/train and then umpteen hours of additional petrol would make it a definate no this year

I'm currently thinking to perhaps go for a general admission on the Saturday - Friday is dead cheap at 15 quid, but theres only a single moto gp practice, and as its mainly the moto gp i'm interested in at the moment seems almost a waste of petrol going for just that Leaves the toss up of 34 quid for Saturday, with two practices and two qualifiers, or 72 quid for Sunday with the big finale...

I think saturday will win it just to save pennies to be honest, as its a first visit and i'm not going to have grandstand access to get my moneys worth watching half of it

I went last year. First MotoGP I went to, we went on a whim. Decided on the Friday and rode down 2up from Leeds to Silverstone on the Saturday.

Stayed overnight, got there early, sat on the corner where Lorenzo went up the inside of Marquez on the last lap. Was an awesome atmosphere - sunny too!

I would recommend it!

I don't really rate Silverstone as far as a viewing circuit, but it's worth going for the noise.

This year I'm riding to watch it at Catalunya instead.

We got complimentery tickets, from a mates dad, so didn't pay.
I've got some photos which just confirm how far away you were from the track, as a spectator. Giant TV screens hadn't been invented then!

Got tickets for the village grandstand on the Sunday.

I hear that they have sold out of a couple of grandstands already and have limited seats available, the email went on to say that the future of MotoGp in the UK isn't certain either so they're expecting far more bods this year............

Wonder who will win though
