UPS Question

After dragging out my old APC UPS and finding them deader than road kill i'm after a replacement.

My previous UPS (SmartUPS 1500) was costing a fair chunk to run so looking for something a little less power hungry.

Found this one on ebay

Its an 850VA so should use less power.
Anyone run a UPS and know how much power it uses ?

I only need it to power a PC, NAS and Router for a few minutes at a time. The power supply to my house has been up and down like a yo-yo for the past few months and its not doing my equipment much good.

I googled powercool, the PSU reviews are shocking.

I would avoid their UPS models for that reason.

Might be worth buying a new battery pack for my APC RS 800 then.
Although i'm fairly sure its dead.
Tried plugging it in again last night and nothing happens.
The batteries are dead but you would think that it would still power on.

Depends if the system is powered by the mains or from the batteries which are fed from the mains.

thanks both my brain just started working again and i realised of course it will be dead if the batteries are knackered.

I thought i had a cunning plan to check.

Was going to connect a bike battery up and see if it powers on but when i took the battery pack apart if appears that the two batteries are connected in serial so that rules that plan out.

I thought they would have been in parallel.

Genuine APC batteries cost the earth to replace but there are plenty of good replacements out there.

The 1500 is an RB7 battery pack.

Quick update.

Managed to get enough charge into the old batteries using my bike charger.
Plugged them in and

Ordered a new set for £33

Saved me a fair whack on buying a new UPS.
