Boots falling apart

I bought some RST sport/touring boots but after 2 months of riding and walking about university in them the sole has worn down, leaving a hole in them! Plus the plastics are starting to come away from the leather.

I'm pretty disappointed with RST for a start, has this happened to anyone else?

Would A* or TCX boots have harder wearing soles? (I don't do a huge amount of walking in them, just around campus.)

Do I have any other options? I'd rather not buy cowboy style cruiser boots...

Sport boots are not made for walking around. The soles will wear out wether or not you spend £500 or £50.

Buy touring boots if you want to walk around in them. My sidi touring boots have walked many a mile without a lot of wear on them. My Sidi sport boots have a screw on sole so I can change it when they do wear down.

Sole is thin, but still, 2 months, you run marathons in them ?
2 months to wear through is probably bad enough to argue for a refund.

A* Webs are quite plain and "touringy", most with a thick sole suitable for walking will be though. You wearing them with race leathers? If you don't like plain touring boots how about adventure-esque touring boots like the TCX infinity?

Anything sporty will have a thin sole and will get destroyed in short order when you next scale Everest in them.

My old A* SMX-R boots had a thin (ish) sole but lasted for almost three years and I only threw them out because they started looking tacky.

RST boots have a habit of being a bit crap especially the soles.

These look like they have a decent enough sole and also have a slight sporty aesthetic to them, worth a shot at £30?

Not the best boots out there but have served me very well. I've owned them for 2 years, I also wear them to college and do a fair bit of walking in them.

They've held up pretty well and have only recently started to show signs of wear and the soles are hardly worn down although in heavy rain you're guaranteed to have wet feet but they work well at keeping your feet dry in light showers (as I'm sure most boots do). For £50 you can't go wrong.

Tcx here, 4 years and still going strong. Sole looks as good as new. In use 5 days a week, but admittedly, walking from front door, to garage on driveway, then from work bays to door, which in total is like 50 feet.

Is there nowhere to keep a pair of shoes or trainers for you to change into at university? I don't think I'd find any of the boots I've owned too comfortable to be walking around in all day.

Get yourself down to Aldi on Sunday, it's cheap bike gear day. Boots for £29.

I wouldn't say RST boots are bad from my own experience - they're certainly not Alps or Sidis, but for the money they [should generally] last a decent time. Not sure about walking being factored in as I rarely used mine off the bike.

Got about 3 years out of my last pair, and then the sole was what went. Patched it up with some plastic putty/chopped up credit card for a while but moved onto something else in the end.

Sounds more like a warranty issue perhaps if you bought them new and have only used them two months though Even if you walked in them on and off they shouldn't of burned through that quick, they'd probably get more wear on the inner sole area twisting and sliding on the pegs than from walking around.

I used to just take trainers in a backpack and puts the boots/gloves in there once I got the trainers on most days at college/uni when I was riding in.
