Now I know from experience that you usually get well looked after at most bike shops and offered lots of advice and help, should you need it....

However, there are 'some' places that take the piss and then take advantage of some riders.

I think it's only fair that these places are 'named and shamed'.

A friend of mine, who is a lady, recently took her 125 into a place called 'Bike shop name removed, cos I was a dick' on the Wirral for an MOT.
The guy told her that it was a fail because the bearings were llose ag the front and that she didn't have footrests on the back (She can't take pillion anyway and this was passed last year).
He then offered her £750 for the bike, which is about £500 short of it's value.
She instructed him to NOT carry out the work and that she had a buyer for it as it was for £1100.
The guy at the shop went ahead and did the work anyway, and overtightened the bearings and then failed the MOT again, as she refused to have the pegs put on and still charged her for the work she did not want done.
She later took it to another place for an mot, where the original bearings were checked and found nothing wrong with them. And the MOT passed with no advisories...

So there you have it, the guy at the shop is a slimeball who takes advantage of people when he thinks he can.

Have you any places you wish to name and shame?

Thanks for reading

To be fair, a lack of pillion pegs + a pillion seat being present is a fail. Also, perhaps the other person that did the MOT missed the bearing issue.

While he may be a jobsworth for failing a bike due to a lack of pillion pegs, I'm not convinced that he was trying to take advantage.

Only if you are willing to stand up to that in the face of the alleged perpetrator, here you will find that the garage / dealer will be contacted to offer their side of the 'story' Wink

Not a troll account at all. And as for the link. Not me, as I'm not from Blackburn and never have been. Also looks to me like it's about 10 years old

I'm fully aware of what my name means in the Urban Dictionary.. It's not in reference to that... I've used this name since I was about 20.

Anyway, my point wasn't really about the fail for the pegs.
(And she did make the other tester aware of this before he MOT'd it. and it still passed.

My concern was that the first bike shop had told her the steering column was loose and would fail. He then overtightened it and the bike could not be ridden. (This was on tuesday)
She explicily told him NOT to do anything with the bike and that she would arrange to collect it.

On thursday, he called her up saying that he'd done the work on the bike and wanted £110, plus the £30 MOT fee, and wanted another £70 for hangers and pegs, or else he would fail it again.
He'd left the original bearings under the seat and the second shop inspeacted these and could see nothing wrong with them.

I appreciate that this is coming 'second hand' from me. But I didn't expect to be blasted by you guys, just for trying to out a message.
After all, from what I've experience in my riding years, there's a spirit of community and brotherhood between us bikers and I thought I was doing the right thing.

Apologies if I offended anyone

The backlash your getting is mainly down to the fact you have just joined here purely to bad mouth a garage, no introduction nothing.
Btw why did she leave the bike at the garage for so long if she didnt want him to do the work?

Down the the testers discretion but it is an MOT fail, iv had to take my pillion seat off and tape a number plate to it to pass.

Oh look Cansa is being a bully again. Obviously you feel bitter about the whole situation since you feel the need to post a Facebook screen shot of something that happened months ago, which by the way has nothing to do with this thread! Grow up!

Why don't you do something more creative with your sad pitiful existence - some laser surgery on that monstrosity of a tattoo would be a good idea.....

Bully away on failbook. I couldn't care less. It's your own fault for going on it.

I agree, no pillion pegs when a pillion seat is present is a fail so the second MOT shop has done OPs "friend" a shonky MOT.

I agree with kerr that OP is being lightly toasted for joining the forum for the express purpose of airing a personal grudge rather than take part in the "spirit of community and brotherhood between us bikers." which is after all, a 2-way street.

I like to think of the forum as being like a pub. If a stranger walked into the bar and immediately started harping on about how they'd been ripped off somewhere, people would pick their pints up and move to the other end of the bar. If they started a conversation, got to know people a little and then mentioned it, they would be better recieved.

Isn't this in the wrong section?
