Left lights on, etc. Clutch in, 1st gear, went to roll bike - doesn't budge.

Is there some sort of quirk with the bandit or something wrong with mine?

You're trying to bump start a 600 in 1st? Laughing
Put it in second or third - it's far easier.

As to why it's not moving with the clutch in, is your clutch cable adjusted properly?

Just checked for u on my b6, and you're right, it is hard to push a b6 while in gear and clutch in while in 1st but not impossible, I could move mine but it did take a lot of effort and I only moved it back and forth in the garage.

It does move, but you really need to push hard to get it to move… almost as if somethings trying to stop you from moving the bike. It's certainly a lot harder than when it's in neutral to push the bike.

Sounds like clutch cable hasn't been adjusted properly. Run along with it in neutral, when up to speed, clutch in, into second gear, clutch out and back in once started.

Actually doing that with anything bigger than a 125 is a little more difficult in reality.

Hi

I pretty much always push start in neutral, knocking it into gear as I jump down onto the seat.

All the best

Keith

Get anyone to push you with it in 2nd or 3rd starts easy then.

I'm never trying to push start myself again unless I'm going downhill!

Or use jumpstart leads with a big lead acid or a car that is turned off.

My 'busa will only bump start in 1st. no chance in 2nd. Bandit I have to push fast in neutral then knock it in like Keith says.

The clutch will drag when cold so you have two options that will work.

Option number 1: Put it in gear (2nd usually works nicely) and rock the bike back and forward until the clutch frees itself. Whilst keeping the clutch pulled in, run with the bike as fast as you can. Jump on the seat and as you jump on the seat release the clutch until engine fires, then quickly pull the clutch in (you'll do this automatically really).

Option Number 2: Leave the bike in neutral with the clutch in, run along with it as fast as you can and jump on the seat. As you jump on the seat kick the bike into second gear and let the clutch out until it fires then pull the clutch in again.

My preferred method is the top one. Always worked for me.

Trying to get enough speed can sometimes be tricky but it just takes a few goes.

Put it into gear (I'd go for 2nd with a 600cc inline 4), clutch in and then walk or run with the bike then when going fast enough you can let go of the clutch lever and it should jump into life. You might need to do as Keith says and jump on the seat when letting go of the clutch.

A Bandit 6 should be easy enough to bump start, once you've got the hang of it's even easier. Thumbs Up

Real men can bump start their bikes on gravel rather than tarmac. Razz

Real men bumpstart their bikes by folding out the handle and actioning it with their foot.

I would imagine that your busa has got a far less steep first gear, though.

It certainly doesn't work with the Zed. Neutral followed by Olympian efforts and then kick up into 2nd. More often than not it'll still lock up the rear wheel, pretty much every time when on gravel (which is unfortunate as most of my previous attempts to bump the Zed have been on the gravel hill outside!)
