Hi all,

I'd like to shorten my carbon end pipe on my R46. Previously I have used a hacksaw but this takes a very, very long time and does not give the cleanest cut.

I was looking at chop saws, I'm sure they would be useful but I can't say I'd have too many reasons to use one. I know these will go through it straight like butter with a clamp built in. Renting seems expensive for just this one job.

The other thing I see are jigsaws, my question is how straight do these cut? Are they ok to cut cans with as looking at it it looks like you would need to clamp the exhaust somehow.

Another question could I use something like this:

https://www.screwfix.com/p/evolution-stealth-210mm-compound-mitre-saw-240v/20758#

Sounds like it will only cut 60mm deep, my exhaust is 110mm but perhaps I could flip the can and cut the other side?

Cheers

Laurence

Use a Dremel or similar.

Put tape either side of the cutline to help keep on track and prevent damaging the pipe around the cut.

Take your time.

I'd be tempted to use a diamond disc in a small angle grinder using tape to keep the cut on track and clean.

Cheers guys.

It's the steel mesh pipe in the middle that is the cause of all trouble normally a bit hard to get to with a small disc. My Dremel seized up from storing it in the shed (great quality...)..

Why not de-rivit the skin and do the job on the bench if the can is a
de-mountable ?
Tape and mark the skin and cut with disc as suggested by others.
Cut the packing with sharp scissors; rotating discs/saws pick up and tear/ distort the packing to shreds.
Cut the inner perforated tube with a hacksaw or grinder .

Keep the tin snips well away unless you are simple !

Hi all sorry for the late reply

I ended up taking it to work and they had the exact same cutter I asked about, funny that! (Evolution Stealth 210mm Compound Mitre Saw 240V)

It deffo will not cut in one clean pass but if you just turn it around the cut is still more accurate than a hacksaw etc.

It cut through in seconds like butter, amazing tool.

Sounds and looks better now Smile Thanks all for your replies. Thumbs Up

I cut down my Beowulf one for the CBR after my fazer accident. I cut a strip out of a bit of vent pipe and used a heat gun to close it the diameter of the exhaust to take the strain and then just use an angle grinder with a cutting disc.

I drilled the holes as per the cut off end and revited the end strip back on the stubby section.

You couldn't tell after. I didnt bother with putting the baffle back in Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
