Hi,

I've got a full power rs 125 and I'm a little bit worried to ride it any faster than 30-40 mph in case it seizes. In a straight line you might not fall off but if this happens in a turn I reckon the bike will just slide off.

Is there anything I can do to prevent seizure? I am using castrol 2t oil. I warm up the bike to 30-40 C before I take off and Initially I ride it in low rpm (below 5-6k) until it gets to about 50-55C. I've never gotten the bike over 70C but my trips are very short (4 miles).

I've also heard people put a squirt of 2t oil in the tank with every fuel up. What about additives?

I bought the bike used with 7k miles on the clock. Seller said the engine has just had a top end rebuild. I have no way to verify that (although he had many other aprilias and that's the only one that he claimed had the top end rebuilt so could be true).

Any guide to minimize seizures?

Hi

If you ride a 2 stroke a lot you just get used to riding with your fingers over the clutch lever Laughing .

Adding 2 stroke oil to the petrol just means that you have less petrol going in, which means a leaner mixture (but then road 2 strokes tend to be jetted a bit rich for safety so you will probably get away with this).

Personally, change the rings about every 6000k, the piston every other set of rings, let the engine get fully up to temp before thrashing it and once warmed up feel free to thrash it. I don't bother to let them warm up before riding them, just keep it below about 5k until fully warm.

All the best

Keith

Thanks again Keith. I was worried, because I really like engine breaking. I've heard you shouldn't do it with 2 stroke engines. My aprilia rs trembles back and forth a bit when I close the throttle when at say 8k rpm. It A bit like when in a car in 1st and you release the clutch too quickly with low revs.

I'm not sure if I need to (or can) increase oil flow to the engine. I also don't know how to check if the oil pump is working. I bet if the engine wasn't getting oil, I'd know about it pretty quickly?

Hi

Problem on a traditional 2 stroke with the oil mixed with the petrol is that when you are running with the throttle closed there is next to no petrol going though, so next to no oil. Hence the risk of a seizure.

With a pump 2 stroke system you should still be getting a half decent amount of oil supplied to the engine.

You adjust the pump a bit which should slightly increase the oil pumped through.

All the best

Keith
