YZ400f for the road

Has anyone had any dealings with such a contraption? I am indeed bereft of vegeteblage except potato in this matter. Matey of mine has somehow got proper pissed on the bay and bought an admittedly fun looking machine. But..
YZ400f on a '52 plate(huh?)
appears to have had a half arsed botch job to convert it to some sort of street legality with a collection of non functioning bulbs.
Running an AC system with what looks like too many wires.
After 2 days of cutting about a rats' nest of cableage, we seem to have lights, albeit with a bit of revvage.
Possibly change to DC?
We would like to do this correctly.

Anyroadup, as I am the fook out of my depth here, can anyone point me in the direction of knowledge in the UK, as google seems to keep throwing me across the ruddy Atlantic ocean!
I understand this may come across as spacktarded, well that is how I must have looked like for a day and a half. Thank God it eventually fired up with lights and fired away. Neighbours had the hump every we checked a circuit! 'kin loud! Very Happy

If you are going to try and use the AC output coil,it would be an idea to integrate a voltage regulator into the system.My XR runs an AC coil for the lights as this keeps the wiring to a minimum.

From what I remember when the YZ and WR400F came out,they were a biatch to start and especially so when hot.

Cheers for that, Fizzer. You wouldn't by any chance have a diagram for that? I was thinking a common rail ac for all lights and horn, then to earth? We seem to have a regulator. There is just so much wiring here, I reckon 95% of it is total guff.
Matey is considering going dc, but I think we could get it MOT standard without. I dunno about indicators, where do we stand? Cheers for the link, will look at that later. Thumbs Up

If you go DC that will need a lot more wiring and components like a rectifier and a battery.As for indicators I do not have them fitted to either the XR-SM or the KTM enduro.If they are not fitted they cannot be tested as part of the MoT.

I bought an AC horn and left hand switchgear from Pro-Racing as my XR had nothing as standard.It was easy to wire in the horn and lights with the live AC feed going in on one side and the other to a good chassis as the earth return.

I do not have a diagram to hand,but the Pro-Racing website has a diagram that is useful Thumbs Up

How much are you intending to use it at night?

If you've got a bit of cash, I'd be tempted to just go for some lithium batteries and run lights directly from there.

Then go LEDs all around for lights, ideally. They're probably not amazing, but you can get 12w LED headlight bulbs in dipped form (main beam is less of an issue as a normal LED should be ok I'd have thought.)

This is mine that has been on the road a few times.

I managed to run out of fuel last time i used it as it only does about 50 to 60 miles to a full tank and it does not have a reserve.

ps. i will be selling in soon for £1300 if anyone is interested? I am in the Leeds Bradford Area
