I've had my domain www.mike-swan.co.uk for almost 3 years now, however this year Google Apps has become a paid for service and I opted out.

I would like to set-up new hosting with someone else but I can't remember who exactly owns my domain. I've tried a WHOIS but all I get is:

Registrant type:
Unknown

Sites can offer transfers, but I imagine I'll have to log in at some point to authorise it? I can't imagine they can just take the domain. This is something I want cleared up before I pay for any service to fuck this up any further.

I've tried logging into my Google Admin console but all I get is this.

Can somebody clue me in as to what I can do to get hosting specifically with www.mike-swan.co.uk

Cheers.

Thanks, can I register it with any company or would it have to be the one which I did before?

Because I can't remember which one it was before.

There is usually a grace period on domain registrations where even if you fail to re-register the domain, no-one else can register it.

Usually this is between 30 and 60 days.

So you can either wait until the grace period is up and register the domain name again, or remember where you registered it in the first place.

Could you not check your bank statement for a year ago? should give some indication as to who you registered with.

Edit: for more info see https://www.4uhosting.co.uk/clients/knowledgebase/7/Domain-Grace-Periods.html

OK. I have found out I bought the domain through Google Apps before it was free. However now I cannot access my account for reasons unknown.

I have an account with Nominet and I'd like to move the domain to domaindiscount24.

So what do I do?

I don't want to renew through Nominet because it's £96, but I only have two other options.

Registration Transfer or Registrar Change.

What the hell is the difference and which should I do? I just want my website back up.

Wait until the grace period is up then register with the new place, try 30day after it expired, if you cat get it then try after 60

or

contact google to try and get access to your account.

I've called Nominet and paid for a Registrar Change. Now I just have to wait for the domaindiscount24 to accept it and put it through so I can renew it.

Seriously?

That's extortionate. Literally.

You can register a .co.uk domain for as little as £2.50

If you already own the domain just ask the new place to transfer the domain over to you. It's as simple as that.

Yeah exactly. I told them to shove it.

I've sorted it out now. Thanks to all involved.
