Jarred here, a hopeful biker someday and ride across cities and states. I'm a teacher and recently earning for my first bike. Lots of helpful threads here so I might go for a 125cc first.

Definitely worth going for a 125 first. Once handling the power becomes second nature you can focus on all of the other skills required to ride something more capable, which will make all of the other tests a breeze.

Invest in some decent gear, learn some basic bike maintenance and enjoy Thumbs Up

Great routes and weather are in your favour in the US! I didn't think anyone bothered with 125s much in the US with their bike licensing now days Razz fair play if you do decide to go down the route though.

Particularly in Florida with all your straight highways i'd be tempted to go for something with a little more punch perhaps, even if its just a 250. A 125 might get a bit tiresome on long highways.

Not to say you can't go for a bigger bike either, it goes as fast as you want it to at the end of the day - but nothing wrong with starting smaller, its what I did to start off with and i'm glad I did personally.
