How do I remove the RC/Power Valve??

Hi guys,

So I finally decided to get a new engine for my ailing '94 NSR125F. It's a 2000 engine which has caused MANY complications, including a new cylinder + piston due to the exhaust port having been cracked (off a crashed bike) but I'm down to taking out the RC valve/exhaust power valve off.

The rubber seal's come off (after much persuasion) but the damn spindle (valve shaft)'s just not budging. On my new cylinder head the recess doesn't have a thread on it, so I'd imagine the old one doesn't either.

I found an exerpt from a Haynes manual, but it just advises to remove it.... BUT DOESN'T SAY HOW!!!

ahem..

Anyone have any ideas (or know what I mean)?

Just pull it out, once you remove the dust seal there is nothing else to hold it in, mine just slid straight out. The only thing I can think of is that the valves are seized onto the shaft because of carbon build up and are stopping it from coming out, spray a loaf of WD40 or soak it in something for a while to free it up.

Remember to remove the little metal collar from the old barrel and install it in the new one otherwise the spindle will go too far in and get stuck.

Mr Jamez, you are 100% spot on! I basicly stuck the wedge underneith the thread (NOT the thread!) in a vice and tapped the old cylinder with a hammer (my new best friend) untill the little bugger slid out, and man, there was such a build up of carbon on there that I had to scrape it off before I could get the valves out!!
