Went out on my Bandit today. Enjoyed a ride through the Brecon Beacons, Elan Valley and the Welsh coast. Best ride I had in months. Was riding rather slowly through the Elan Valley past the 3 dams. This is the only road which I can still enjoy at less than the national speed limit.
On the other hand, on some open stretches of road I was doing about 120mph and I still had a very strong urge to go even faster. Do you bikers get this "need for speed"? I cant help it, I really cant its addictive. I generally stick close to the Red Circle speed limits (usually built up areas) but in the national speed limits I like to speed.

I like quick acceleration but not into high speeds.

Wind noise, wind turbulence and if you come off your probably dead are probably the reasons i'm in no rush to speed.

Each to their own.

The most addictive part is feeling the acceleration for me, it does feel awesome going fast around a bend though. I sometimes go a little above the speed limit but I'm petrified of being caught speeding, which, if my licence was taken away, would make my life extremely hard not only during the period of the ban but also the increased insurance costs etc.

I would only ever do that where I know the road thoroughly and know the risks. This attitude has kept me safe so far, although I do sit with a clenched arse for two weeks after silly days. I actually hate the feeling of worrying - most of the time worrying about nothing.

Acceleration over speed for me. I'll cheerfully batter past a dawdler, but mostly just to get a clear bit of road between me and them.

My karma has suffered because I have agreed with ALL who have said acceleration over speed. Trouble with me is the Bandit is like a commercial airliner. You dont feel the speed.
Im also for acceleration, its just that I accelerate to high speeds easily butt. Part of the reason for my high speed travelling during the last stint was because I went from Aberaeron (A482) to the A40 and only overtook 1 vehicle. When I joined the A40 I overtook a truck, plus a few cars and bikes on that long stretch.

3 of the 5 days this week I have cycled* to work to save money, but losing my license would be a killer as this job sux..

*I love mountain biking. Travelling along a narrow path at walking pace next to a 500Ft drop is far more exciting than 120 mph on any motorbike

Done about two hundred miles this weekend and I don't think I saw much over ninety at any point. What I have seen is some shitty riding though - from dicks pulling out of car parks and braying the living fuck out of cold engines, to guys on busas and the like wobbling up to junctions and nearly toppling over.

I was overtaking everything today... I just couldn't resist Embarassed

Me going way too fast on public roads means I really need to do track days again.

The motorcycle parking in work was actually FULL yesterday. Totally unimpressed. First time since I started my new job in November.
Also, the proportion of nodders has gone down considerably.
Sat next to two sports bikes at the lights on the way home today and neither even seemed to notice I was there.

On the upside, it was the first time in ages I rode on dry roads on Saturday. All that time riding on slime has improved my confidence no end and I'm actually doing something that feels like a proper lean now. One corner I suddenly felt I was leaning an awful long way, realised I wasn't going to make the corner and leaned more. That turned into a 25 mile trip to the Home Bargains 3 miles away...

Another for acceleration over top speed for me personally.

Too much wind and noise half the time to be arsed to stick at high speed, and fuel starts to get guzzled Thumbs Down

If I was to ever speed Tut Tut i'd tend to stick to 10-20mph above the limit generally, although the national limits on some roads would be quite inviting to test ze power once in a blue moon.

Nothing like a 0-70ish launch off the lights onto a national road occasionally though Wink

Ain't it a great feeling being able to take bends with confidence, knowing your not going to come a cropper on a wet or damp patch.

I managed to get in 160 miles yesterday and another 120 miles today. Very Happy It's been months since we actually had dry roads over here. Thumbs Up

I managed to reach a dizzying 60mph on my speedy YBR. Nearly shat myself with the brutal acceleration, I did.

Cruising at speed is boring.. I stupidly hit 140-150 (on my broken speedo Wink ) every time I'm on the m54 and not realised until looking at the speedo.

The scariest thing is just pinning it from 50/60 with a large pillion. then not realising the front wheel was in the air the whole time.. Until you get that Shake when it hits back down with the wheel slightly turned Shocked

Scariest thing about speeding over 130 is losing your license and possibly facing a prison sentence!

Yes, it is awesome.

If the weather is the same in Germany, I bet they (speed junkies) are enjoying their Autobahns (Motorways) that don't any speed limits.

Yeah I've noticed a number of fair weather wobblers pootling round town the last week. Its amazing how many riders seem only to ever ride when its sunny.

I certainly like the acceleration when you thrash it and everything goes blurry/ backwards. I hope people jumping back on their bikes realise they are still gritting roads so they need to cold wash them after every ride. My big bike is staying put until they stop gritting.

I just don't understand why people ride big brand new sports bikes with all the nice gear, most of the time its just for show. I do get bored sometimes on my sports bike as I don't break speed limits, acceleration is fun in the first two gears but then there are 4 more.

I have way more fun on my 125 most of the time, definitely around town thrashing it in and out of cars, the only thing that sucks is the top speed and acceleration but it is a cheap way of getting to work. I think when I replace it I will go for a 250 so i have more acceleration and top speed.
