Despite what many of you on here say, I've had my CBF 125 for 15 months now and it's been perfect for what I need. It's a reliable commuter bike for me and it's VERY cheap to run.

That said, I've been toying with the idea of having a sportier bike to use when the weather is nice or on the odd weekend. I'm not bothered about the top speed, just want something that's fun.

I'll be keeping my CBF as my year round commuter so this bike would be an addition.

Is there such a thing though? I like the look of the Yamaha TZR125 and the Honda NSR125. Are these bikes any good?

Bear in mind that I have an A1 license at present so can't go higher than a 125. Not looking at spending any more than £1,500 either. So just putting this out there to see if A) the two bikes I have mentioned are any good? or B) are there any others that may fit the bill?.

Of course, I'm expecting the odd "Fuck off and do your DAS!" too Wink

If I had to get a 125, sports bike I would get an nsr, great little bikes

Although I'd probably get some sort of supermoto and go Greenlaneing, more fun things you can do with a 125 that can go offroad Thumbs Up

Oh and Fuck off and do your DAS Wink

I used to have a neighbour with an RS125. Only ever had a brief go round the block on it but compared to the 125 I had at the time it seemed crazy fun. However he spent more time with the spanners out than with his helmet on (though it was old and high mileage).

If I could afford a second bike and was limited to 125's would I have wanted one? Yes..... but the money to get a decent one gets you a full licence with enough pennies left over to get something bigger, so I guess I'm in the fuck of and do your DAS camp

Don't know anyone who's had an Rs 125 that hasn't consistently broken down or completely died. I'd avoid them as there all old and been ragged to death by now

I'm also in the fuck off and do your DAS group. £1,500 will get you a licence and a bike twice as fast as any 125.

However, if you absolutely must get a 125 for fun, I would go down the 2t route as others have suggested. Have you looked at the DT125's? Pretty reliable from what I gather and gives you the added dimension of green laning. Technically speaking though, you couldn't have a full power DT anyway until you've passed your tests, by which point you may as well buy something bigger anyway.

Or 11kW.

That.

That said, if you're just after a change have you considered a supermoto?

Yamaha quality and been around lonog enough to find one in your budget and for a 4stroke has the top end of the HP limit. You can get 185cc kist for them as well.

Id say get an off road bike. Half the 2 strokes I looked at a year or so ago looked like they were about to give up and die. The other half already had. You may see a bit better cornering or even a top speed of 75-80 from a 4 stroke 125 sports if you pin yourself to the tank, go to toilet before hand, and have a good long run up. But thats going to get old fast.

So take a change of scenerey. I see your in the South East, anywhere near Sussex? Plenty of decent lanes, grab an XR or something cheap and hit some muddy tracks. The bike will not be much more fun, but the terrain will be Thumbs Up
