Bought a cover from poundland, it ripped, thought hmm... maybe I should spend a bit more. Bought a cover from lidl, £8.99, it's lasted a year and is still going strong. Not given it anymore thought ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

Also thought I might add that I bought a cover for my car too.
Car had developed a leak from somewhere, water filling the rear footwell, several litres a day if it was raining all day.
With the constant rain we had pretty much throughout late January and all of February, I decided to get a cover to at least keep the car dry until I could gut it and remove the whole interior... carpets & all.
Went for the Halfords Advanced cover. Seemed to work very well, 100% waterproof and breathable too. Meant I could run a fan heater and a dehumidifier in the car to completely dry it out, as well as stopping more water getting in.
Car has since dried out, I appear to have fixed one of the leaks that kept filling up the footwell, but there seems to be small (50-100ml) amounts still making it in from near the boot, and that is running into the spare wheel well, which was why all that soaked. Not sure where the entry point for all the water is though, so still not yet fixed it. |

I have an oxford one (cost about 20 quid,) which does the job... When I bother to use it. Most of the time if I have been on a ride and it was raining I think well the bike is wet anyway and leave it. Only tend to cover her up if I have just cleaned her ____________________ The why of fry |

Would you rather buy 10 shit ones in 2/3 years or 1 decent once that'll last 5 for say 200quid?

Where I'm going with this, is partially turning covers into a security device.
Before a car/bike is stolen if it's got a cover on that is the first thing they see, before either lifting the bike away or taking the cover off.
I started a Facebook/Twitter feed for stolen stuff called They Stole My Wheels a year or so back which get's some use, and is supported by various police forces across the country plus a few other theft prevention companies so the next plan is get the logo printed on some covers and start trying to actually reduce bike thefts; theory being if a thief knows of the name they should hopefully leave it alone because as the whole thing grows and the nation gets involved more people can spot stolen stuff and help get it recovered. if they take something that's gonna be shared virally when the owner notices they're more likely to get seen with it and caught so they're put off.
Might work,
Might not, but it's worth a shot.
(btw this isn't spam, just wanted feedback so if it's good, cool; if not, you live and learn ) ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Get some better happy pills, hit the gym & buy a medallion the size of a dinner plate. Job done |

Funny you mention that. I previously had a modified car, which when I decided to sell realised I wouldn't make much money back, so I returned it to standard. I had someone come to collect the interior seats one morning, so the night before I removed it from the car.
Car was parked on the street for only one night with no interior or steering wheel, woke up in the morning and they'd stolen the wheels. Must have assumed it was abandoned or scrapped, or perhaps someone who knew the deal, I'd had plenty of people from forums round to collect stuff.
The wheels were worth sod all, got them off ebay for £10, 3 of the tyres were on minimum tread, the 4th had a not so slow puncture (losing 10psi per day).
We live in what most people would probably class as a nice middle class area, not somewhere you'd expect to find a car on bricks.
Having the cover to stop the rain getting in also had the added benefit of keeping prying eyes away. Didn't want to take the chance it may happen again. |
