I am an addict, only thing on my radio. PM Program is ideal as soon as I get in and I could wank to Gardeners Question Time.

Me.

I have slippers and if I smoked I'd doubtless have a pipe.

Younger than the average R4 listener, at only 24 years of age, but I listen to it 40% of the time, more than any other individual radio station.

Love listening to Just a Minute and The Infinite Monkey Cage. Desert Island Discs is always a winner, and download the podcasts for those 3 if I happen to miss them on the radio.

Always found the shipping forecast to be very soothing when I'm stuck late at work or have an early start in the car.

Not a fan of Woman's Hour though, and cannot stand The Archers.

Shipping forecast is postively hypnotic.
Woman's Hour can be a bit bleeding heart precious for me, though occasionally they have good stuff. I used to listen to the Archers 25 years ago but suspect I'm a bit out of touch now Very Happy
Words and Music is sometimes very good indeed.

When I got back to the UK I thought R2 was pretty good, but the quantity of inane wibble has got to me and now I turn off when it gets too chatty.

Never listened to Jeremy Vine, never plan to, but he came across as the most incredibly self righteous holier than thou cunt on Twitter and in the Driving section of the Sunday Times a few weeks ago regarding cycling

It's called 'Sailing By' I believe....

Radio 4 (and 4 Extra) fan here too. I've listened to talk radio since I was a teenager (I could never sleep and it was about the only thing worth listening to at 3am). It used to be TalkRadio at night until that became Talk Sport when I switched to Radio 5 but then that became all sports as well. Now it's firmly R4 at night.

Have been an avid R4 listener since I was about 14.

Listening to radio / music and riding aren't good bed fellows IMO though.

Used to love sticking on Hallam FM (local pop/charts radio station) at night, probably started when I was about 12 or so. They used to do a 2-3 hour phone in show every night Sunday-Thursday.

There were several presenters over the years, I particularly enjoyed its time as The Tom Binns Thing, then Nick at Nights (Nick Margerison). These were the days before I had a tv in my room, before freeview, before we had sky in our house. Used to listen on headphones so my parents wouldn't hear it. Midnight was after my bedtime at that young an age.

Not come across similar phone in shows which I enjoy as much as those.

The Benno family are very influential. So I tell myself when I go to sleep jobless every night...something will come along soon Sad

All radios should be tuned to radio 4 and then have the buttons removed.

Pretty much the only station I listen to - not a fan of the inane warblings of the rest - if I want to listen to music I'll listen to my own without them.

Mostly just listen in the car, but sometimes have their pod casts on my phone - yes, including the daily westminster stuff.

Womans hour irks me on occasion (see feminism thread), but often interesting stuff buried in there. Glad I've got steering wheel controls on my latest car, so I can ensure a quick switch over at 2pm/7pm straight after the news to miss the Archers Smile.

If you didn't catch it, "The Long March" is definitely worth a listen - a series covering what's the start of Mao's ascension to power.

Yeah, me too.

I used to put Radio 4 on so that Bruno had more talking radio (rather than music) while I was out at work, and we used to listen to the Archers "together" before I got on with making dinner. Although no matter how many times I listened to it, it never seemed to have any continuity *mystified*

But mostly I listen to Radio 2. Nowadays, as I leave, Chris Evans is talking so much that Bruno hardly notices I'm gone Rolling Eyes

Radio 6 has some interesting moments *anarchic* Shifty

Smile Yes regular listener at age of 44..enjoy wakening up to farming today and learning all about different aspects of soil, worms and animal issues. Also tweet of the day and Today regular favourites before heading off to work. Some good stuff in the evenings between 8 and 10pm then the World Tonight. Chris Evans is ok on radio 2 as an alternative if you need wakening up properly, but in small doses. Another enjoyment is TMS on long wave..

You don't mean Lillibulero do you?

We have Radio 4 on all the time at home- I've been a fan for years since I discovered the comedy slots. We used to go to the recordings of shows like In One Ear, The Wow Show, Son of Cliche, The Bodgers, I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue, etc etc at the Paris Studio in the 80s.

The only things that make me switch off are The Archers (load of two dimensional shite that it is), Sailing By and Robbbbeeeeeeeeeert bloody Pestooooooooooon wheeeeeeeeen heeeeeeee hasssssssssn't prepaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaared properly.

Didn't know it was on fridays too Sad. Probably good that I turned it off as I was on the way to the scrappy and otherwise blending in quite well wearing some 'trackie bottoms'.

I listen - but only on long wave, because the shipping forecast is the most essential part of the schedule. The only time you can hear it on FM is really late at night or dead early in the morning - in other words, if you are trying to come down off a really long acid trip and need the sound of something homely burbling in the background.

Anyway yeah - it's good to keep up with the goings on in, e.g. North and South Utsire, not to mention German Bight. The only downside to long wave is the Daily Service, LW's tedious, soul destroying, interminable god slot - a programme so dire that you will need to cleanse your radio with fire if you don't manage to switch it off in time. Long wave is also great for live cricket commentary. The essential sound of summer. You don't actually listen to it so much as absorb it through the subatomic pores of your very mind - it is a form of sonic wallpaper, as reassuring as clean underpants, a renewed prescription for Imipramine, or the smell of an Austin 1100's interior after standing in strong sunlight in a quiet suburban street somewhere near Maidenhead, or Hurley.

What really fucking pissed me off though was how they've replaced The Archers' Clarrie Grundy with a new one, THEN SHORTLY AFTER a new Tony Archer.

WTF.

The old Clarrie was about a grillion squillion times better - the subtle levity of her delivery was impeccably pitched. The new one is a drab - a down at heel yokel dullard that I both loathe and despise. And as for the new Tony Archer, well. What were they thinking?? The old one was a spoilt, snobbish twit who deserved a sound kicking on the car park of The Bull. Whereas his replacement is just a rich whining cunt.

Also, much as I hate the scotch, there's not enough Jazzer.

The new Tony is just wrong, Clary however used to be Clary many years ago and is (I think) actually married to Eddy RL.
