 |
|
Hi everyone i just have a quick question on a local byway so here it is
I rode to sedgefield today to find a byway(green lane) that i found on a few maps and I arrived there and on the sign post it said "Public Byway" so my question is
Can I ride on it on my bike or do I have to have permission from anyone.
There was no other signs apart from a no fly tipping one and I could quite easily open the gate and go through but i thought its best to be sure im allowed first.
Thanks in advance for any help ____________________ Current: '04 Honda XR 125L

I believe the kind of route you describe to be a public right of way on an un-made road.
However you will find other users will see it as being a bridalway so it's probably best to simply give way to everyone on it in an effort to keep it open for use ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

You need to take 2 steps if you want to go about this properly -
1) Check the status on an ordinance survey map.
2) Confirm it with your local rights of way officer.
You are looking for BOATs (byway open to all traffic) and are shown as +-+-+-+-+ on an OS map.
A useful sign to look out for is a blue sign with 'unsuitable for motor vehicles' written on it, that right there is gospel! ____________________ 2012 KTM EXC 250
