I have been looking into this bike a lot recently, from what I've seen it seems to be a great bike. Anyone here ever owned/ridden one? Any info would be nice, it's a consideration as a first big bike.

I think they look awesome. If I was to buy an unfaired bike that'd be the only choice for me (maybe the thousand version though).

Gotta be orange though, any other colour just doesn't cut it!

I am intending to purchase one this year.

You can get a semi-faired one as well, which is what I looking at. See below:

Yeh the Sports version is available aswell, I'd prefer the performance but like the look of the standard model, especially in black. I have to check insurance on the z1000 and keep in mind it's a big step from the NSR.

Right, good bike these are.
They had a shootout with one of these against a gixxer 6 K4, the results were that there both were nearly identical in performance except when they both reached their topend they matched exactly the same except that the gixxer was in front of it by 2 bike lengths.

so it's basically a more reliable 600 (performance wise) unfaired.

Money depending, the Z1000 may just be my next bike (in orange, of course).

I think the fairing turns it from a gorgeous bike to a very boring one.

I agree completely.

So do I, think it looks pretty lame with that fairing on it. Without they look really aggressive and like it's about to punch you in the face and take all your dinner money.

I had one on loan while my bike was being serviced. Got to admit it was great fun. Handles well with a nice spread of power.

Imo it's the nicest naked bike around (without getting into the insanely expensive/unreliable benelli/MV territory), would love one. The proper naked one though, cause that fairing just neuters the thing.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the faired version either, looks more like a fazor or diversion than the agressive streetfighter unfaired version.

Wouldn't bother with one personally. A mate of mine owned one, 2 weeks later he upgraded to the thou, aparently the 750 is very very tame.

If your moving up from doing a DAS or from a 125 the Z750 is a very quick and good bike though. I sort of like the fairing as well, depends if you were doing long-distance work, but then might as well get a ZZR etc...
Anybody know what the insurance on this will be like compared to a Hornet?

I'm guessing it would really sting, since insurance companies make a very big thing out of capacity even when it doesn't necessarily mean horsepower.

We can dream though. Laughing

I could see that but the 750 is something like £2000 cheaper isn't it? but you don't see as many second hand ones as you do the z1000

The Z750 is newer than the Z1000, hence the lack of 2nd hand ones. Give it 6months or so, they will soon start appearing.

I'm currently on a 500, but not sure if I want the Z750 or the Z1000. There's only £60 difference in insurance between them, for me.

To your friend it may be tame. But then an R1/Blade would be tame to a MotoGP rider.

Each to their own and all that.
