Right so, I'm 24 (u wot m8?)

The SRAD 600 is in the workshop at the moment, and they gave me a CBF600 as a loan bike. I did quite like the riding position etc, but tonight was when it really hit home.

Absolutely long-ass day at work today, and I was shattered. Got ready, and jumped on the bike, and I just couldn't believe how ruddy comfortable it was compared to the SRAD. Yeah, I know, the SRAD isn't built for commuting, but I reaaallly enjoyed that ride home.

It was nice and lazy riding, effortless. That nice whirring hum from the stock exhaust, not loud and raucous like the SRAD (I know right, heresy). It was just serene. I didn't even care when mopeds and buses cut me up, I just swung on by and tootled home.

Yeah, it lacks power, but she chugs along nicely and got me home and not a single bit of effort was given.

So has anyone else gotten old before their time and started to fall in love with a "sensible" bike? I mean, I've sort of stopped caring about how many vagina's the SRAD made wet, and the loud noise, and whizzing about everywhere, I was surprised to find I really really enjoyed that calm collected commute home...

Haz i got teh old ghey?

It sounds like you're reaching your personal age where the body makes the decisions your dick used to.

For me that was around 40 but I guess today's youth are more lethargic than I was 20 years ago at your age.

Anyway, don't fight it. Being comfortable is a right not a punishment.

You just prefer a nicer riding position that is all.

I would instantly swap my 7r to get my Tuono back, just as it was far more comfortable.

There is plenty of bikes with less lean angle with plenty of get up and go.

I realised in my teens that I wasn't into scraping everything on the deck in corners, while hunched over the tank with my chin on the clocks, so I've stuck to comfortable and relatively upright bikes ever since.

Yea, that's why I ended up with the GSXR1000 for the commute - easy/lazy riding. If I still had a similar commute, would take an ABS blade or S1000RR over that for even less worries when riding Smile.

It's a phase Wink

I went through a stage of trundling home, enjoying the ride etc for around a week.

Then I went back to speedy gonzales and racing home to see if I can get there quicker than the day before Laughing

I'm rapidly approaching 27 and have no intention of easing up from my ZX10R. That said I am not particularly tall, and am the right size for superbikes which probably makes it easier on the old joints. That said I did less riding this winter than I have in previous years.

Who knows, that may change in a few more decades.

Well I have trundled all my biking life, never even considered a sports bike. May be I am going in reverse, when I hit 50 I will take the plunge for now I just enjoy what I enjoy.

If I commuted on 2 wheels I'd want something comfortable and quiet as well. My KLE was well suited to that I found, being mostly standard. It was refreshing to have a quiet bike as well I suppose although had noticeably more people pull out on me.

600 SRAD's make terrible road bikes. The later K series onwards are better but even then sportsbikes are never going to be great on the road.

I got my first CX500 back in 1983 and have had my Pan Euro for 17 years so I'd say I definitely like my comfort.

never actually ridden a full on sports (despite insurance companies deciding an fz6 is a sports ¬_¬)

but I'm totally fine with upright riding, why bother if something is so uncomfortable it puts you off.

It is all about what you want you want out of riding IMHO.

If you want a balls out scream everywhere you go and arrive with a huge grin on your face, then, yes, sports bike all the way, does not even need to be a big one either.

If you are after a more leisurely journey and arrive with a huge grin, then obviously the tourer is a better option.

Do you like the dirt bike/SM kind of riding position and arriving with a huge grin on your face, then go for that.

Personally, whilst I love the look of the out and out sports bikes, I am not built for them with an overly tall frame and a knackered back, so a tourer/sports tourer is more suited to me and still means I arrive with the huge grin.

From reading on BCF, it does seem that over the years of riding, many members tend to accumulate more than one ride, a commuter for the comfort it offers and effortless control and then, for want of a better word, a plaything for the weekend rides, when comfort is secondary to the enjoyment.

I for one feel that my CBF offers me the best compromise for a garage with only a single bike in it at the moment, the comfort and ease of use for everyday commuting coupled with the capability to take me to the limits of my meagre experience when the opportunity arises to twist that noise grip and ride for the enjoyment.

Just my 2p

Mike

This.

They are in fact, considerably more powerful than a 600 SRAD and despite being a fair bit heavier, I suspect the VFR is a faster bike overall.

I have handed several GSXR600 riders their arse in a sling on my VFR750 over the years and they gave every appearance of trying pretty hard.
