Best 125 supermoto

Hey guys, im starting to looking into buying my 125, i want a supermoto, so basically which are the good ones, and not so good ones, which are quick and reliable? I've been looking at the derbi senda sm 125 and the gas gas sm 125. Can some one please shed some light and recomend some good ones and if my choices are good, Thanks

I did have a Senda SM125 (up until last night) found it really, really good. Handling was brilliant, brakes were superb (got a 300mm disc on the front and a 220mm on the back), was still running it in but was touching 62 in top and it wasn't that slow getting there either really. Fuel consumption was good as well and it only cost about £7 to fill the tank. Plus I think it's the best looking of the 125 SM's at the moment and with the 4T engine it'll be reliable.

Isn't the Gas-Gas the one that comes with a three month warranty? It would be fun but I wouldn't count on it being reliable.

MZ do a supermoto that looks very well built, not as fast as the 2-strokes you have mentioned but should be reliable.

if you tuned up the senda sm, what do you reckon it could do top end? I have a derdi gpr at the moment but its constantly going rong

Not really much you can do to the Derbi at the moment, apart from get an end can, but you can only get them from one site and I couldn't get it to work. It should do 70 easy, maybe 75 at a push which is quick enough, and as I said before with the 4T engine it should be pretty reliable. A 2T is going to be quicker and easier to tune, but if you dont look after it your likely to have problems.

If you want a faster bike than the 4stroke MZ, get a 2 stroke.
The 2 stroke will be faster, more reliable and cheaper in the end that a tuned 4 stroke.

ok then so what will be the best 125 supermoto? That people have had good experiences with, that dt looks horrid!

I've had a good experience with my Senda while I had it, dont really know much about any of the others (apart from the DT, but I wanted a 4T) so it's up to you really. Go out and look at them, work out how much you wanna spend and whether you want reliability or a bit more speed, see which one you like most. There's no way of saying which one's "best" as they all have there good/bad points.

Are you looking to buy new or second hand?

I'd always reccomend second hand and fairly cheap for a 125 on L-plates.

Have a look at the TDR125 of the Cagiva Supercity, there's a few around for cheaper ones.

If you really want a SM 125 I would rather get a cheap base and do it up, since it's more than likely you will drop it a bit. I mentioned DT's as they are a great bike and available at very good prices. For around £500 you can still get a nice DT, just chuck on some renthals, road tyres a makeshift fiairing and it's happy days. A lot can be adjusted on the bikes and allthough you were after a 4t from what I have seen DT's are very reliable, 3 of my friends have them, 2 of which are very old and all 3 of which get thrashed and haven't had any major problems. An older model de-restrcited with the right valves a dep pipe and it's jets sorted will put a real grin on your face when it comes to wheelies/off roading and racing around town.

For roughly £1000 you can have a decent bike and be insured, Good luck with getting what you want.

70 mph seems ok spose, my gpr does 80 sometimes but doing 70 will that be in the red line all the time? also people who do have them, what are they like to do stoppies and wheelies etc. thanks

Get the gas gas you know you want to!!! Who cares if it breaks down every five seconds Only problem when i was looking at them you can't get them second hand as rare so you would have to splash out about 4 grand to get one (more than that i think). Gas Gas have claimed that it puts out 38bhp!! Make a rs look very very slow.

Anything over 70 on a dual carraigeway will be illegal. Most of the bikes listed above should be able to achieve that.

If you want a 125SM to ride and forget, fet a four stroke one. If you want one to go a a decent pace, get a dt or tdr. If you want a faster one, get the supercity. If you want a VERY rapid one, get a gas gas or husky.

The faster you go, the more you will have to spend on topends and general work.

For me, the supercity is good enough. Indicated 100mph, 31bhp. Decent service intervals, enough problems to keep me busy.

Buy an aprilia mx 125 supertard . Its nice looking, extreemly fast @ 33 bhp at the rear wheel has upside down forks, Brembo twin piston 320mm front brakes and genalli 220 rear brackes extreemly good handeling, full digi dash including max speed, average speed lap timer, shit hot lights... The list is endless but the thing i love the most is the 150/60/17 rear wheel it's just sooooo fatttt. I scrimped and saved to get my 54 reg one and i love it !!! :never ever ever for sale: I think it's proberely the best 125 supertard you can buy!
