Stopping your bike being nicked?
Bear in mind that some outfits are really car insurers dabbling in bikes as a side line.
Modern cars[*] don't really get stolen except by the keys being physically nicked from a house, and the big consideration is third party or comprehensive claims.
If that carries over to their bike weighting, they won't really give a stuff about security.
As oft mentioned, when I was running quotes on my BMW, adding an Almax+Squire put the lowest quote up by 1/3rd.
Looking for logic or common sense in insurance decisions is likely to result in a sore head from all the scratching.

I only use them for additional peace of mind [as much as you can have anyway ] and hopefully preventing at least a fair chunk of potential thieves nabbing the bikes.
I think as Roger says a lot of insurers don't even really know much about half the bikes they're insuring - Perhaps for many its simpler to assume if someones chaining their bike, they're more worried about it getting nicked/being desirable to nick than many unchained bikes - therefore its at a higher risk of theft in their mind and hence the premium isn't lowered, or as a few people have mentione actually ends up going up.
I don't usually declare my security unless it does rarely make a small discount. |

At least it wasn't "that'll save £20, plus a £40 policy amendment fee, so you need to pay us £20"
As, if you tell them about security they won't pay out if it wasn't being used, and security you declare seems to make little/no difference to premiums, I'm rapidly coming to idea that you don't admit to anything and then use it anyway. ____________________ Honda Varadero 125cc => Suzuki Bandit 650 33bhp => 77bhp =>

If thieves can take a classic VW Campervan in broad daylight in a busy part of London without any repercussions, then stealing a motorbike is nothing. ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |
