Today my parents and I made the trek round the M25 to a military academy in Surrey.

The bike we'd been looking at had been on ebay twice, and I was looking at the same model very local to me, but it was a fixer upper, cheap but needed lots of money spent.

This bike was more expensive, but not much and is sweet.

it's an H reg yamaha XJ600N (the pre-diversion type).

It's red.
It's got a 4 into 1 Neta exhaust system, a year old.
It's got an fiinternational 33bhp restrictor kit.
70K on the clock.
6 Months T+T

Came with a full tank of petrol, two weeks ago it had new oil, oil filter, air filter and plugs.

Bad points:
Rear wheel bearings are shot
Clutch is VERY heavy, and I guess needs replacing?

My favourite point is the price tag. £425, viciously haggled by my father down from £600.

Gaz (a happy chappy)

No sadly it's a chain drive. Only the 900 diversion was shaft drive, ironically you can just see the headlight on one in the back of that photo!

Pics to come tomorrow, I have four bikes to photograph tomorrow, so watch out bandwidth!!

Hi

Both the XJ900 Diversion and the earlier XJ900 were shaft drive.

The 600 should make a decent first bike. Spares are quite plentiful on Ebay.

For the clutch just replace the cable first of all. £10~£15 from Yamaha, and only then is it worth checking anything else!

All the best

Keith

Does your insurance cover you on other bikes? Cuz I suppose that's the only thing stopping you riding it...

Excelllent, and that sounds a very good buy at £425.

The heavy clutch could just be a dry cable?

enjoy.

Looks pretty tidy for the mileage and honest with it. I like to see a shiny saddle and worn hand grips on a higher mileage bike and they look about right. Good price too Thumbs Up

The only thing it is missing is a sports rack piled high with camping gear and a tank-bag full of beer Wink Maybe see it like that at a rally sometime this summer?

Dinnae sell the MZ, you'll regret it. You will probably find it is worth more to you than you could sell it for, if the yam is off the road for any reason it will come in handy. Don't take my word for that, I have six bikes at the minute because I can't bring myself to sell them Rolling Eyes

If the bike you are going to ride is not insured then your insurance will not cover you...unless you have a traders policy.

On closer inspection the milometer is in km, so it's closer to 40k miles.

I don't plan to sell the MZ, I love my little bike, especially in its moto-x 'clothes'

Expect to see the XJ at some bike events this year. Very Happy

One happy chappie.

Yes it's an XJ900 Divvy, (with a shaftdrive Wink)

And it's very dark green.

It's also up for grabs at £2,100

Congrat's! Be safe out there. The roads are still probably a bit damp over there, after all.
