she is detumind to get to the other one

Try a small water bowl?
rather than a bottle.
Not so deep that it can drown, though!

Are the spouts made from metal?
If so, try to find one that's plastic.

Maybe there has been a change in the water supply which is giving the water a bad taste.

Also, try distilled water.

I'd go with boredom too. The wifes bunny rabbit does that too when it's attention seeking.

Add more cage furniture to chuck about, bog roll tubes and stuff.

A small hamster laptop would keep it occupied.

Only if it has broadband. If not you're just setting it up for more disappointment. Or does that go without saying?

I got a hamster a few weeks ago.

The cage came with pathetic wheel about 5.5" in diameter, which is no good for a Syrian. I replaced it with a 8.5" wheel which takes up a third of the cage floor, but he loves it. Runs for hours and hours. When we can, he'll have free run of the hall, if it's on the floor, he'll give it a nibble. That or he's in his ball.

Since doing all of this he's been less keep to chew at the bars.

perhaps more stimulus or as Stinkwheel said, try distilled water.

There's always the carrier bag and house brick option...

heres a crappy pic of cage off ebay

https://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb129/andyscooters/_35_zps79cc79c0.jpg

basic cage layout is a plastic tank with a top opening which is bars
it has a platform for the bed/food and the floor for the play area

the wheel is joined onto the top floor but never gets used

the bottle goes in through a hole in the side of the bottom part of the cage (shown)

cage has wooden things to chew and treats

hamster comes out for fuss/handling every day

have now put a new bottle on the cage and the old one is now inside to play with

seemed to be quieter last night

Looks more like a tank than a cage. He's probably trying to remove the bottle so he can escape. Clever little bastard.

I'm not sure I'd be using distilled water.

In fact. I would advise against it. I suspect you could land up missing some important trace elements.

Bottled water would be fine if you were worried about a bad taste.

The only reason I suggested it was to see if there was a change in the tap water that was reacting slightly with the metal of the water spout. Confused
