I know what you mean though. I got a lift into work this morning and was almost shouting "WHY AREN'T YOU GOING DOWN THE SIDE OF THIS TRAFFIC". Going home at dinner to get the bike ____________________ Current: '99 Fazer 600 | '99 Range Rover P38 4.6 HSE

I've found that now when I drive I get far more impatient than I used to because I can't filter/scoot through little gaps etc. A few weeks ago a guy was having his car put on an AA truck on a single track road, so I filtered past half a mile of traffic, scooted down the pavement and rode away on the other side to a completely empty road. I could sense the hatred |

Its not the car, nor the bike.... its going to work!
Sat in the box, I would have the heater and the radio on; and want to do murder... what do they give Breakfast Show radio presenters? NO-ONE has the right to be THAT fucking chirpy first thing in the bludy morning!
"Hey!, look, its 8am, its another wet grey windy day in Birmingham, isn't it WONDERFUL!" NO! STFU and play some music!
If that's not bad enough, you have some twit trying to do a U turn or backing off a drive way holding up thirty cars who COULD get through that GREEN traffic light!
You sit there, frustrated, bored, and generally getting more and more pissed off with the world... before the day has even really started.
Bike. Coffee. Suit up. Start engine. Make sure engine is warm, hat, gloves; examine cars in street for frost on the windows and other tell-tale signs of what to expect. Mount up, stand up, pull away... ginger throttle, test ground conditions, choke 'off'. No bludy Early morning DJ! Filter to head of queue onto main road... have to stop two cars back, for the pillock that HAS to put his car two inches from the bollard so you cant get all the way. Arsole. Turn onto main road, open bike up, blast past, BRAKE.... yup, there he is EVERY bludy morning, he does it, backing out of that blind gap in the hedge, doing up his tie..... blocking twit back on number plate, suddenly realises why you have done an e-stop... tyres screech. Pull away. Turn left, wind on, three hundred yards, NSL sign, open the taps up a bit..... start picking marks, to pass the Mondeo men. Fifteen minutes, of intense concentration later, its into the city, and back to filtering; dodging the school run mums backing Scenics off drive ways at full pelt, white van men, changing lanes at the last minute at lights, and the blockers determined you WILL wait in the fucking queue like every-one else. Works car-park. Pull into shed. Take lock out of top-box. Fumble gloves and hat, lock bike up. Unzip jacket; head to toilets to warm hands under dryer and do super-man change into 'people' cloths.
Arrive at desk no sooner than you would have if you had come by car! At LEAST didn't have to put up with free-radio twat.
Car or bike, NEITHER is a 'joy'... bike is merely the lesser of evils.
At 30 years old; I gave up the hot hatches; bought a Granada Automatic with a nice sterio and an arm-chair to sit in.... if you cant-beat-em-join-em... realising that those forty minutes going to and from work, were about the only time truly 'mine' devoid of squabling kids and nagging missus, overbearing bosses, neurotic collegues and such... so may as well make the most of them! Comfy chair, nice noises, and as little 'driving' to do as possible.
Then go do something daft with a motorbike on a Sunday! Usually round a disused quarry! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

As above, the alternative to riding the bike to work is either packed/expensive/slow public transport with sick people coughing and sneezing, cycling; getting stressed/hot/sweaty and being the most hated thing on the road or the bike. Quite often I'll have fun, but then I don't go for rides on the weekends. Gonna try more with the new bike. ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)
