 |
|
Trying to fit a scottoiler, went to insert the T-valve thing, which involves getting under the tank.
Quickly realized a fixture is stopped the tank from lifting up, a quick read around suggests these two pipes can be unclipped somehow, but since I filled up my tank to full before starting this, I'm guessing unclipping these will cause petrol to piss all over my driveway?
Am I supposed to run the tank empty if I want to get to my air filter? And what kind of cunt thinks thats a good design?

The only way that petrol will piss all over the place is if the seal around the cap is knackered.
As a rule, on carbed bikes the two pipes are for fuel and vacuum feed - if there's no vacuum, there's no fuel. based on that, remove the smaller pipe first, then the larger one.
Since this is, however, a fuel injected bike, it's dependent on whether the fuel pump is on and actuating, which it won't be.
Short answer; it'll be fine - you shouldn't get more than about a dessert spoon's worth of fuel spillage. ____________________ '10 SV650SF, '83 GS650GT (it lives!), Questionable DIY dash project, 3D Printer project, Lasercutter project |

Thanks, managed to get them out with no drama.
The tank wont lift up though, it gets trapped under the bar where the bolt that holds the tank down under the seat, its like the tank itself has warped shape and is now too big to squeeze through the gap

I removed the entire tank by undoing bolts at the hinges.
Now theres about 3000 screws holding the air filter housing together, and the head of each one is chewing up like a bastard.

I would normally suggest a bit more downward force when unscrewing them, but given the fact that you're built like an aircraft carrier, I rather fear that it'd turn to dust.
While supporting the back of the seam of the airbox (I presume that the screws are around the outer edge), give them a light tap with a hammer. Might just be enough of a shock to free them off. Remember that you're not dealing with metal, though. ____________________ '10 SV650SF, '83 GS650GT (it lives!), Questionable DIY dash project, 3D Printer project, Lasercutter project |

Turns out I don't need to undo all these screws, as I can lift the air filter housing up off the throttle bodies, but fuck me its not easy.
I wish I'd never started this, I can get the air filter housing up off the throttle bodies but its all plugged in at the front end - I'm way out of my depth here already so dont want to get disconnecting hoses/connectors left right and centre. I can see the corrugatged pipes but don't really have any room to work in.
I've lost all useful daylight now so will have to leave it in pieces and be up at 6am to try and sort this - I've got places to be tomorrow and this is throwing a right spanner in the works! Totally not worth it, the hours I've spent today I could have spent a fraction of spraying the chain and actually riding the bloody thing.
I fitted one to my GSXR1000 in 15 mins flat too!
