My open cable snapped last week and I pick up my replacement one today, but as I've never replaced one before does anyone have any advice?

I was thinking of trying to thread the new one alongside the old name, detaching one end and attaching the new one (one end at a time) and once the new one is in place removing the old one.

It kind of makes sense to me, but just wanted to check I've not missed anything.

Thanks is advance.

Yes, this is a good way to replace any cable as there is a good chance that you won't thread it along the wrong route and cause problems in use.

This of course assumes the one you are replacing is in the right place.

Just another thing to add, check that the speedo input connector turns freely, you can do this with a small flat screwdriver, just to make sure it's not jammed. And once all is in place, turn the front wheel very carefully to ensure that if something isn't turning smoothly, you don't snap the new cable.

These are quite good at lubing cables fairly thoroughly and easily.
