Hi yes a 600 fazer I thought it was strange as well it wasn't restricted either I'm 27 so don't know if that's why but I was puzzled when he said what I was riding the first CBT I did was when I was 17 and that was a 50cc moped

Hello and welcome. I cannot make comment on you doing the CBT on your Faser, as I have no idea of the rules...they keep changing all the time. I passed my test quite a few years ago, so I don't need to know such things. Cool

I'm not sure if it could be. I did mine at 29 with a full car licence from 17 and I was told that the biggest bike I could do cbt on was a 125 due to only riding on a provisional licence for that class of vehicle. Interesting though.

I don't think so.

I've never know it to happen. Usually they start you out on a CBT for you to adjust to a bike.

Once you pass that then MOD 1 training and for you to adjust to a bigger bike.

Jumping straight onto a bigger bike is weird.

have you been on bikes before?

I thought you weren't allowed on the road on anything bigger than a 125 without having completed the CBT...

Not to be rude mate, but are you sure you were doing your CBT and not starting your DAS?! I only say that because when doing my DAS there was a guy who'd just passed CBT (on a 125) and jumped straight onto a 600 for 4 days training with tests at the end. I just thought it was not legal, under instruction or otherwise, to ride more than a 125 on a provisional?

Maybe I'm wrong - Roger will probably correct me with the legalities.

Well, when you go out for DAS instruction, you're riding a (probably) 600 on a provisional.

I'll admit I thought you did need the CBT before you could go out on a 600 under instruction, but maybe not?

Oh yes, that was poorly worded! I meant, thought you had to pass CBT before embarking on a 600 under instruction

My understanding is that while you're doing the CBT, your provisional entitlement is provisionally validated, if you get my drift.

So you can ride anything that you could ride after the CBT, with the same rules.

Since the limit for a CBT road ride is already 1 instructor to 2 students, if that instructor is DAS certified, carrying his or her certificate, and the student(s) on 126cc+ bikes is/are wearing hi-vis, then there's no reason why you couldn't do the CBT on a Hayabusa.

Roger is right.

It can be done by a DAS instructor but not by a downtrained or card carrying CBT instructor. Restriction to 125cc bikes on a CBT is (amongst other things) related to what the instructor is entitled to teach.

Most people do their CBT on a 125 partly because it's all the instructor (unless he has been to Cardington for his DAS course) is allowed to take you out on the road with.

Just to say I never worked at a school that did this and I wouldn't personally have done it.

EDIT: But I did know an instructor who sometimes, for selected students, did CBTs on the schools GS500s when it was the fist day of an ongoing DAS course.

I done half my CBT on an ER6n because I was doing my MOD1/2 training with them and I asked if I could use the CBT time as MOD1/2 training as I already knew how to ride. They didn't seem to have a problem with it.
