I got a new phone recently and it was great, worked a lot better than last one etc etc.

But then I connected it to the computer and it asked me if I wanted to install the software to download the software to download the software to install the latest update (seriously, all of that). So I did.

Now the update has made the phone much less user friendly, the interface is ugly, clunky and awkward, the internet browser doesn't work, and it lags and freezes during normal operation/use. Is there a way to roll back the update?

I don't know about phones, but on my laptop I stopped ALL windows updates entirely. Then spent a deal of time deleting / uninstalling all the updates it had made. Then normality was resumed. I'm sure you could do similar with a phone.

Unfortunately, as with most technical things, undoing all updates takes time.

Were you expecting to require an update via the laptop? Mine can be tempremental in acknowledging my phones connected sometimes and it takes a few attempts before I can access files on it etc.

It may well of been the usual install menu's for new and unrecognised devices that search for drivers etc - doesn't mean the phone is actually in need of them, particularly whatever the PC might of thought was the right file.

I'd be wondering if its messed around with the phones OS/software in ways it shouldn't of. Would doing a factory reset leave you with any problems?

It's a new phone so factory reset wouldn't cause me too much trouble. I barely have any contacts on it (never backed up my old contacts before I lost my last phone). Would a factory reset definitely get rid of this latest update?

I only downloaded the update to get rid of the update notification icon. Now I realise it's worth having the icon there instead of updating!

I've gotten used to having the notification on my still-iOS5 iPhone 4. It's been there for almost two years Laughing

Surprised nobody's asked what phone it is, or why you didn't post to the Geek Zone where more qualified peeps might see this...

As metalangel said i'd hit the geekzone for the better advice.

I've never used apple products much - so if its an iPhone and its usual to update via a PC I might be barking up the wrong tree with my first comment.

With my samsung s3 for example though all official and 'recommended' updates are delivered via 3G or wireless through the device itself. Connecting and installing stuff off a PC will generally be un-nescessary or cause issues.
