Does having a 33hp kit on a bike damage the engine/increse any sort of wear on the engine?

this is not a question about performance, I ride a 33hp bike just wondering what effect on the engine it has (wear and tear)

or does it not really effect the engine?

I shouldn't effect it, it's just like riding around on a derestricted bike at 2/3rds throttle.

your XJ600 will be restricted in the throttle body, the ER-5 has washers in the carbs...

It will make the engine last longer if anything because it won't be under as much load. However it may also clog up some of the parts with soot etc if the restriction kit is fitted badly and it makes the bike run rich. Even so, its nothing a bit of redex won't sort after you remove the 'o' rings! Very Happy

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I really cant see how it could possibly make any difference that should cause concern.

As mentioned it could cause the engine to run marginally rich but the effect of this is nothing at all to worry about.

As above it will probably make the engine last better as it wont be under as much load or pressure.

No, mine is restricted in exactly the same way. If you look at the way a carb works and the nature of the washer, all it does it limit the amount of air and therefore fuel. So no matter the position of the throttle, the amount of mixture is being choked by the washer.

So it gives the same kind of effect as not giving it full throttle.

Or so is my understanding of it, which I believe is correct.

Yeah, it stops revving at 7300RPM in 6th gear.

This however translates too over the tonne so its not *that* bad

Well having run a GS500EM from October 2002 till September 2003 in a restricted state I can full sya that it has no detrimental effect to engine wear or anything, infact the engine on my bike sounded really sweet even after 32,000 Miles! and 7,000 of those were restricted miles.
