So this is my mates old and sadly departed '91/'92 GSXR but what we were wondering today is if anyone on here can identify the tyres he had on.

They are Michelin A89/M89s

Labeled at the time by the press as the worst tyres ever produced by that company and came as OEM on a number of bikes Thumbs Down Shocked Thumbs Down

They were supposed to be better than the A59/M59s that preceeded the 89s Rolling Eyes

Just looking at that front tyre brings me out in a cold sweat. This rubber was the very work of Satan. Obviously Michelin's payback to the rest of the world for being...well, French.

This info not only clears up the mystery of which tyres they are but also goes a long way to explaining what was the major factor in both his relatively low speed offs in damp conditions, the last of which wrote off the bike when it ended up under a car.
