Indeed.

I appreciate the workmanship, but it's a triumph of form over function.

I must say I'm becoming less and less interested in these 'cafe racers', as they move ever farther from the original concept.

Superb craftsmanship and attention to detail, like the steel insert in the seat that Is actually part of the frame. Still looks shit though Thumbs Down

Not really. A proper boatbuilder doesn't sand through his dowels and leave scabby brass heads showing (See 2nd photo)

I suppose, to be fair, it's built by a Yank, so it's not a cafe racer, because they didn't really do them, but it does have some of the styling cues, so it's not sure what it wants to be.

Bobber+retro custom+cafe+steam punk = ornament

Nope. It has a cleverly hidden, buell-style under-frame shock linkage. All that effort then uses a springer front end instead of a girder.

Negative. This is prettier and it's a production machine:

It contains some creative ideas, and it has a superficial steam-punk appeal. But it’s supremely unusable (like many of these creations), and that destroys any lasting appeal for me.

The real beauty of a motorcycle lies in its function. Anything else immediately risks being kitsch. This guy embodies kitsch but doesn’t seem to realise it, which is sort of the worst of both worlds. Of course there’s a large market for that kind of slightly lazy thinking, and fair play to him for successfully exploiting it.

Damn, I thought Tamsin was offering more than a picture of a bike Wink

Agree with MarJay though, I would rather have this:

My opinion, it is all very arty-farty. It's style over substance. Looks good in a gallery and as an exercise in what the builder can do. Given that I think bikes should be ridden that one is a tad impractical. Except maybe, possibly, wind in the right direction on a sunny day you can park it outside to look at.

It would certainly catch my eye, if I were to walk down the street and see one parked up. I would probably even take a photo. But consider it as a potential ride...? Not a chance. Laughing

Do these art projects typically even start? They may in some cases be literally unrideable even for a few metres.

It's not an entirely unheard of concept and it is working primarily in tension. It looks at least as heavy duty as the one factory fitted trellis swingarm I could name off the top of my head. In fact, when I first saw it, I thought it actually was an SDR200 swingarm flipped over. Closer inspection reveals it not to be.

Wooden seat? More like pain on spokes rather than sex. I'd be surprised if a lad after 200 miles on that could even get his pride up. Smile

Side note: normally, people, that don't ride, tend to point a finger at these, cafe racers, occ style choppers and so on, thinking that's the proper stuff, but they are horribly wrong.

Maybe it's a ladies bike. Big single thumper, good for vibrations and all that Wink
