Here's a good reason not to buy cheap pads! The rear set have done about 4000 miles and started graunching at the beginning of last week, just as I set off for an 800 mile tour. Meant to check before departure but you knowhow it goes Embarassed

The front sets weren't much better but at least they had stoppie stuff still attached!

Look at the rust and corrosion. They look 20 years old.

I ride my bike in all weathers and my brake area (pads/discs) look in a lot better condition than that.

Looks to me like a combination of faulty ownership and dodgy pads. Razz

Agreed, probably didn't soak them in oil overnight to make them last longer. Tut Tut

Can't remember the brand but they were 'organic'.
Put them on there at just before I went to the States back in October.
Yup my bad for not checking, I thought I'd just picked up a stone - after all who wears out rear pads in under 3000 miles on Devon roads???
The rear disc is in surprisingly good nick considering what state the pads are in, must have been some nasty Chinese butter like steel!

I'll give the calipers a good clean and now have EBC HH sintered all round! (Edit: Which is what I've always run on the front sets)

Ferodo eh? I can get those at a healthy discount now, but wasn't sure if they were any good, haven't heard anybody say so in a long time - actually haven't even heard them mentioned in a long time.

I gave up on EBC HHs. Far too hard on the discs, although worked ok.
Someone told me recently that EBC organics are good - any good for an FZS1000 (not particularly light bike, performance gets used on it)?

No idea what's on mine at the moment, been on there since I bought it, 12,000 or so miles ago, still some material left, but I'll be changing them soon. Wish I knew, cos they do seem to stop the heavy ol beast!

Fitted 16th May last year, noticed graunching at 4000ish miles and they've gotten to that state in exactly 5022 miles, calipers were fully cleaned, new seals, the works. I know it's been a hard winter on the old girl but she has been cleaned on several occasions!

One good thing I did find out this last week touring two's up fully loaded is that she'll happily do 53mpg, which suggests I really must stop those 28mpg beatings she gets!!!!

The chap at my local supplier said that you couldn't beat Brembo's, but at 48 quid a pair he can stick 'em where the sun don't shine ( ie. back in his stock room! Laughing )
